Why would you move to Australia for £20 extra a month?

OP posts:
eyeswideshit · 05/08/2019 11:45

Why wouldn't you?

Wilberforce2 · 05/08/2019 11:45

It's a completely different lifestyle as well though isn't it?

cookiemonster3 · 05/08/2019 11:47

In a second. As long as we weren't worse off then we would be on that plane in a blink of an eye. The quality of life and opportunities are so much better than where we are now.

Luaa · 05/08/2019 11:49

I don't think you'd be moving for the £20 a month though would you? You'd be going for the different lifestyle and I'd be happy to make the move and not be worse off.

Cohle · 05/08/2019 12:34

I doubt they're doing it just for the extra £20!
As others have said, it's a different lifestyle.

Screamanger · 05/08/2019 12:47

For the experience
For the lifestyle
For future opportunities
Because there is space
To get away from Brexit
Because the UK is boring

SchrodingersMeowth · 05/08/2019 12:54

All of the above!

OneThreadOnly0101 · 05/08/2019 13:04

You wouldn't. You'd move for the experience. The weather. The laid back beach life. To see new sights. To try new food. To meet new people. For the sake of curiosity. To get away from miserable nay-sayers like you... Lots of reasons.

ajandjjmum · 05/08/2019 13:16

Understand anyone wanting to experience a different way of life.

But really Screamanger - the UK is boring You can't have looked far!

whitebowls · 05/08/2019 13:16

Weather
Lifestyle.....with bells on
Experiences
Opportunity
Why wouldn't you?

ineedaholidaynow · 05/08/2019 13:18

If the Uk is so boring why do so many Australians come over here?

Aebj · 05/08/2019 13:22

Because this beach is 800mtrs from my house
Weather ( although I hate winter!! And cold nights )
Small class sizes and lots of high schools in the area, local school has to take you
I can make an appointment to see a doctor tomorrow ( might not be mine but I can still see one, within a 10km radius )
I don’t have to pay to park my car at the local shopping centre ( or said beach)
You can become a dual citizen and you are on the winning team , whoever wins The Ashes!!

Why would you move to Australia for £20 extra a month?
Pomgirl · 05/08/2019 13:24

We moved to AUS december... completely different life!

Also I do a similar job and earn 13k (english) more! Partner earns similar but was a manager at home and not here.

I’d be shocked if someone was only £20 better off wages are very high....

QueenOfThorns · 05/08/2019 13:26

To escape Brexit?

Blatherskite · 05/08/2019 13:27

It'll be more than £20 once the Brexit recession hits!

The weather is nicer
The lifestyle is better
It would be a fantastic experience
No Brexit

My friend went for 2 years 4 years ago. She doesn't want to come back and I don't blame her. I'd leave the UK now if I could.

BonAccordSpur · 05/08/2019 13:27

We did!!We absolutely love it here..laid back, outdoorsy&just has a more generally upbeat feel in that its not doom&gloom&
pessimism that seemed to be the default setting in UK at the time where we lived. We jumped on plane &came for the experience&adventure. Were initially poorer financially-richer in ways that mattered to me.
Its been my home for nearly15 years&im glad i could raise my DC here-they have thrived here.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/08/2019 13:40

Well it would depend on what comparable incomes and other costs are. If you are already financially comfortable, the money is less of an issue, but if it's an extra £20 pm on a low salary, you'll struggle in Australia because groceries are more expensive than the UK and housing often is, unless you're starting off in an expensive area here.

Namingetiquette · 05/08/2019 13:43

Stability

SilverySurfer · 05/08/2019 13:49

I wouldn't move to Australia for 20k extra a month.

jasjas1973 · 05/08/2019 13:51

The UK is packed for its infrastructure, roads and housing.

When did we last build a major road ? M6 Toll, almost 2 decades ago is all i can think of.

However, plenty of brits go to Australia and return soon after, so we must have something????

The problem with Brexit is that it means we can't even escape the UK to live in Europe, so far far away is that is left :)

TwistyTop · 05/08/2019 13:54

People emigrate for all sorts of reasons, not just money. I'm surprised that an adult wouldn't understand this. Perhaps you need a holiday, OP...

LHMB · 05/08/2019 14:03

I'd move to Australia in a second too. Been twice, love it, everything about it is better than here. Why would anyone not want to live there!

OtraCosaMariposa · 05/08/2019 14:06

Is this a "Wanted Down Under" thread?

Obviously £20 month isn't a massive draw. But if you're weighing up the pros and cns and on balance you're coming out financial the same, that's a tick in Australia's favour.

bluetongue · 05/08/2019 14:10

I’m an Australian who’d love to move to the UK.

I hate hot weather and swimming in the sea is waaay overated (beaches are good for dog walking though).

Plus it’s just so far from anywhere interesting and travel costs a fortune.

Anyone want to swap with me Grin
