Do you ever serve the same thing for dinner two nights on the run?

I'm in Australia so it's afternoon here. Thinking about dinner tonight...can't be bothered. Not much in and too busy to go to shops.

Would it be terrible to serve chilli again? I served it last night with rice....I thought I could defrost some of what I froze last night and make baked potatoes to go with it...and salad...instead of rice which is what we ate last night.

Almost always serve same meal for a couple of days 😂. Batch cook at the weekend then have meal A for 2 days , meal B for 2 days and a snacks beans / eggs/ pasta meal - what we eat in which day depends on who’s home when.

Pinkfoxglove · 05/08/2019 10:33

Bolognaise always becomes chilli the next day here.
Stews and casseroles often taste better after 24 hours in the fridge.
We regularly eat the same food for breakfast and lunch, why not dinner?

winterisstillcoming · 05/08/2019 10:40

Yup I make 3 or 4 of whatever on a Monday. 1 for Monday, one for Tuesday and the rest for the freezer for the school hols. I've barely cooked this past few weeks

Im celebrating life with a jacket potato and tuna tonight and as its a pack of four and dh doesn't like JP for some reason I'll be celebrating Tuesday and Wednesday too

bumblingbovine49 · 05/08/2019 15:30

I sometimes eat leftovers for lunch and dinner again, so three times in a row. DH and DS tend.not to like doing this though. Except if.it is very hot chilli ( DH) and any pasta dish (DS) as they would eat those forever it seems to me !!
.

I only cook for myself, I often have the same thing two or three nights in a row

BlueSkiesLies · 05/08/2019 17:49

Yes. Very often.

Often the exact same meal.
Sometimes the same main thing tweaked slightly with different carbs or accompaniment.

Efficient isn't it?

WindsweptEgret · 05/08/2019 17:56

We often have the same for two or three nights in a row as there's just the two of us and I'm not just cooking something like chilli or curry for two.

ReggaetonLente · 05/08/2019 18:14

MIL does this, I hate it. Literally exactly the same meal served up the next day. Not even one pot meals but meat potatoes and veg - she cooks it in ridiculous quantities and just serves it over and over until it's gone.

But I think chilli baked potatoes is quite different to chilli and rice, so I think YANBU.

Purpletigers · 05/08/2019 18:35

Yes . Some things taste better the next day . Stew and broth are two wed have two days in a row .
Also if I cook roast beef at the weekend we’ll have it the following day too . Life’s too short to stress over every dinner .

@TheSheepofWallSt

You've really made me laugh. Grin
Especially with the condiments.

Grimbles · 07/08/2019 21:31

Mmm... Chilli con Sarnie...

Hadenoughofitall441 · 07/08/2019 22:52

Nope... just can’t do it, like a bit of variety. If we have leftovers I either leave the. For someone else or freeze them

TinklyLittleLaugh · 08/08/2019 00:14

I made a pulled pork chilli with a big shoulder of pork on Sunday and we ate it with rice.
For dinner on Monday we had it in burritos with salad and guac, salsa, grated cheese and sour cream.
Then there was a bit left so we had it in wraps with salad for lunch today.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 08/08/2019 00:15

Yesterday.

HennyPennyHorror · 08/08/2019 00:27

No, never!
I hate it, reminds me of when I was a kid and my mum would serve up the same meal again and again until it was all gone.
It either gets frozen or dp will take it for lunch.
However there’s very very rarely any leftovers because I shop weekly and purposely buy enough per meal just to eat it once.
Something completely different every night here.

Linseedlill · 08/08/2019 00:43

Yes of course and I'm glad to see others do too! It doesn't mean the meal is somehow inferior if it is eaten fwo nights in a row, as long as it was good in the first place! In fact, casseroles and stews often develop a better flavour on the second day.

I'm always amazed to see elaborate meal plans on here where people eat different things every single night and never eat leftovers for example. Bit always seems a bit extravagant to me and leftovers can be fab! And I'm all for cooking once, eating twice as it saves time and money. It's great to have a roast on a Sunday for example and eat cold cuts with loads of salad or veg the next day. Enjoy your chilli op!

PickAChew · 08/08/2019 00:46

If I'm going to find joy in food, it's not in constipating myself with a plate of pasta.

2nd day chilli is a real thing of joy, though. All those lovely melded flavours!

BuggersMuddle · 08/08/2019 01:06

All the time. We plan to cook enough for 2 nights for most midweek meals or any others where we might not have time to cook. When we can, we cook even more and freeze.

That said, we sometimes vary it e.g. chilli with rice one night could be a burrito next night. Roast chicken could be used for a chicken noodle soup. We do fairly often plan same meal two evenings though: not sure what's weird about that, or not a 'celebration', as it's nice, fresh, home-cooked food.

KickAssAngel · 08/08/2019 01:39

I'm another one who frequently serves up the same meal two or three nights in a row. Not so much in summer, but in winter, I go for the old-fashioned approach of making one big thing on Sunday, then eeking it out over the next few days, with a variety of sides to give some interest.

If anyone wants more effort than that, they know where the kitchen is.

Weenurse · 08/08/2019 01:46

I like to do smoked chicken vol u vonts and make double the filling.
I then use left over filling to make little pies the next night. Both meals served with salad.

CatoftheMilkyWay · 09/08/2019 19:12

My mum used to do the exact same meal for as many nights as it took to finish it - in fairness she was working odd hours at an extremely stressful job and my dad can’t boil an egg! Wasn’t until I met my DH (who gets bored easily) that I realised there was another way of eating! Still serve the same thing more than once if I have a big batch though.
