Cleaning/maintaining a 10ft pool. Help!

As we're not going away this summer I finally caved in an got the kids one of those giant paddling pool type efforts with a filter. We're on a water meter but I was hopeful that with the filter and the chlorine I bought we'd only need to fill it once and it would last the school holidays.

We're 2 weeks in and my pool dip stick things say the chlorine, ph and algi levels are all spot on. However, the water is full of little bits despite using the filter a couple of times a week for the recommended 2.5 hours to cycle that amount of water.

Am I doing something wrong? Does the filter need to be on more or for longer? Is it just a shit filter or is it not meant to get the little bits? I've just spent 45 minutes out there sieving to get the bits out but I reckon I'd be out there all night and still not get everything.

Do I just need to admit defeat and empty it or can it be rescued? Thanks!

Following with interest, got the same question!

Have you never been on holiday abroad and seen the pool guys with those long handled nets, fishing bits out of the pool, or with a water vacuum, vaccing the pool? The filter will only sieve so much. Get some fishing nets for the kids and make a game of it!

Does it have a cover?

I have an 8m in ground pool. It has a filter going 24/7 but it needs manual cleaning with a net and vacuum every week (yes I have a pool guy!)

We don't really do those kinds of holidays. I did wonder about a vacuum thing but they seem quite pricey. The kids get bored of the sieving quite quickly, I've tried! Maybe I'll get a proper net and see if that's easier.

Yes it has a cover! We use it religiously. Maybe I could employ a pool guy. That would be quite amusing actually when they see it's an argos bestway pool for 60 quid...

Just come back to this for @nevertwerknaked to say I found a way to clean it that cost zero pounds! We used the hosepipe. Got some suction going by filling the hosepipe up with water and then having one end in the pool and the other end downhill of the pool (our garden is on a slope). The water runs out creating suction which we used to hoover up the bits. It worked really well! You lose a bit of water doing it but not much.
