WWYD? Couch to 5k with child?

Looking for some opinions, please?
I want to get fitter but I'm a single parent and I dont have enough child free time to make a gym membership financially worthwhile. So I was thinking about downloading the Couch to 5k app and doing it with my DC. DC is a healthy active 8 year old and quite likes the sound of the idea of helping me get more active. Would you? Or am I being selfish expecting DC to do it with me?

Why not? It’s nice to spend time together, exercise is good for both of you and your DC is keen. I my 6 year old loves coming for a run with me- go for it!

If your child wants to do it then fab, if not can they scoot /ride a bike with you or plsy at the local park while you run round the edge?

Go for it, it’s a lovely idea. My nine year old comes to do ParkRun with me and dh and has been doing so on and off since he was about six or seven.

Do it.
See if there's a route that will allow your dc to cycle along with you.
But be warned, at 8 they might already be faster than you Wink. I've seen 8 years olds beat their parents at a 5k parkrun, and they're not even running club kids.

I'm a LP and mine have been dragged to parkrun for years.

I think it's a great idea. I started doing it with my DD, who was much older, but I had the earphones and she just ran with me.
If you download the NHS one, and she has headphones too, she can listen to the music and encouraging voice. I wouldn't have her on a bike or scooter as you'll be tempted to go too fast to keep up with her. Let her run with you too.
I did it last summer and managed to get as far as completing a park run or two. I've had an injured knee so have started again from the beginning to build up my stamina and have downloaded a different app which doesn't have music but you play your own playlist.
It takes about half an hour every other day.
Good luck!

Great idea. I tried it with my DS but he is very tall and despite me already being able to run 5k and him theoretically not, I couldn’t really keep up in the first session! He was slightly pink on the neck area, I was beetroot with sweat pouring off me.

My DS (11) had an ACL injury and we’ve agreed with his physio we’ll do C25K together when his knee is strong enough.

Cool! Thanks for all the replies. As a complete new comer to exercise I wasnt sure if I would be pushing DC to do too much. Am downloading the app now!

Yes, I sometimes jog with my 7 and 5 year old and they love it. They are much faster and fitter than me so they usually go ahead a little and then double back for me!

Just make sure you get your DC good, supportive trainers.
