Why don't you listen to your midwife?

Dandelion1993 · 03/08/2019 20:39

They're okay to just pop them in quick while you go to the loo and similar but I never would to sleep

I am, am just not.sure what to do, i thought i was being good by getting the little pillow as it stops the child getting a flat head but now am not sure and dont see my midwife for another few weeks.

I asked mine, she was old and blunt.. a tad rude. “Would you rather he had a flat head or suffocated for vanity” they’d recently seen a case with a baby dying after rolling on an apparently fake one (listed as real) off Amazon.
If you reposition them often enough and don’t leave them on their back all day they won’t get a proper flat head. And if they do they’ll likely grow out of it as they get older. You’d be surprised at how flat it needs to be to be considered a problem too.

The reason these are not advised is because it's a suffocation risk. Babies can get wedged and not be able to move. This is the NHS saver sleep page which advises agains wedges, baby nests etc www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/reducing-risk-cot-death/

My baby slept on the same one as yours (the second pic) for around 3/4 months. It then went into his bassinet on his pram.

He's like his mum; likes the comfort lol :-) X

I've been given that one in your second pic by a friend whose DS just outgrew it. Haven't used it yet (haven't given birth) and I'm still not sold on it as a concept since I already bought a fun jungle-patterned playmat for tummy time and have also bought a bouncer.

The way I understood it is, I thought the Babymoovs were supposed to be ok for if the baby is next to you (e.g. you're sitting on the sofa, awake, alert, and paying attention), like for a place to put the baby down for a few mins while you drink your coffee etc, but I also thought they were definitely not intended/safe for unsupervised play/sleeps/definitely not at night.
