How much reading do you do books, media?

I was a bookworm as a child that has stayed with me on and off all my life. Doctors, hairdressers, hospital, you will find me with my nose buried in a book. Nothing on tv, reach for a book. Of course we are all reading online these days even OH who only reads on holiday is on his tablet in the evening reading.

Am I unusual or is the reading habit alive and well in the UK?

I have to read-I get withdrawal if I don't have anything to hand, I read on buses, in my lunch-break, and in the evening. Sometimes while the telly is on too. I download free books to my Kindle to take on holiday.
(I used to buy cheap paperbacks to take, but they cut down on your luggage allowance.)

I read loads, mostly real books but sometimes on my kindle or phone. I read a lot of online articles too.

I am reading almost every minute of the day when I'm not called upon to do something that requires my undivided attention! I'm a writer/editor by trade, so this helps.

I always have a book on the go. I’m part of a book group with friends. DH reads as do both my teens.

Benjispruce · 04/08/2019 19:23

I tried a Kindle but didn’t like it so stick to real books.

LBOCS2 · 04/08/2019 19:24

Lots. Mostly on my kindle, but despite the fact that I buy all new books in e-format we still seem to have a lot of books around the house... Hmm. I read 150 last year - also spend a lot of time online reading news sites and Mumsnet (clearly!)

Benjispruce · 04/08/2019 19:25

I went through a patch of not reading much when DC we’re young.

zafferana · 04/08/2019 19:27

I read loads - always have done. I manage about 35 books a year (it was more like 50 when I commuted by train), I read two papers online most days, also magazines, books to the DC, I'm a complete readaholic. I enjoy things on telly too, but reading is my absolutely favourite pastime and if there is nothing on that I want to watch I switch off and read instead.

SalrycLuxx · 04/08/2019 19:27

I read far too much. But I love stories. I worked out in 2018 that I’d read over 270 books (270 was just the number I read on my kindle). I can get through two books a day if I’ve nothing else to particularly get on with, and I will stay up all night to read if I’m into a story.

I’ve had to have DH hide my kindle from me and only give it back at pre-arranged dates this year...

I wish I could find a well paying job that let me just read.

I have to read a physical book every night in bed, before I can go to sleep ( obviously not a whole book ! ) and have done since I was a child.
I also read from a tablet. Catch up on the news before I get up in the morning and several times during the day- as well as on here--

I love reading, I read every day but only real books.

StarlingsInSummer · 04/08/2019 19:37

I’d read a cereal packet if I have nothing better to read. I have at least one book on the go at all times, usually two or three. I’m on book 53 this year so far. When I’m not reading a book, I’m reading the internet (obviously not the same thing as far as quality is concerned).

Just finished BIg Little Lies by Lynne Moriarty. I read it because I enjoyed 2 of her other books. Just realised it’s on tv now although the setting has moved from Australia to US.

Benjispruce · 04/08/2019 19:53

Lianne not Lynne

SimplySteveRedux · 04/08/2019 23:05

@JacquesHammer

I read whenever I can.
*
I pretty much average 450 books a year. I record them all.

It’s my favourite thing to do*

Shock I thought I read/listened to a lot but this is insane!! That said, my count would be far higher if I didn't listen to music so much.

450! Kudos!
