Recommendations for itchy scalp shampoo?

For years I've suffered with an itchy, slightly flaky scalp. I eventually tried some T/Gel 2-1 (my hair is very dry) a couple of years ago and it's always worked brilliantly - right up until I last bought a bottle from Amazon a few weeks ago. Maybe they've changed the formula because I'm getting an itchy head again only a day or so after washing my hair, although my first few bottles were fine.

I've tried H&S itchy scalp shampoo as well, no luck - still itchy. L'Oréal used to do a golden coloured anti dandruff one which was good but I haven't found it recently.

Anyone got any recommendations? Or suggestions as to why my stupid scalp is itching despite routine treatments. All my other hair products are the same, I haven't changed anything. Confused

To-go coal tar shampoo rather than the 2in1 works great for me

Blutopia · 03/08/2019 17:44

I just came back to say that was meant to say 2-in-1 - and I just checked on amazon and noticed that it doesn't have the coal tar ingredient that the "therapeutic" brown coloured one does. The one with added conditioner only has salycilic acid, which obviously isn't doing the job is it!

Der, school girl error. Thanks!

Short term I’ve found Nizoral works, but cutting SLS (sodium laureth sulphate) out has worked long term. Took me till the bottom of a bottle for it to work though! I get on with Aubrey Organics, Avalon and Faith in Nature - here

I second nizoral. I had a really flaky scalp

Stressedout10 · 03/08/2019 17:51

No problem I made the same mistake myself before 😳

I've just changed to a Manta hairbrush, it's pricy but sorted out my dry itchy scalp in days.

Child's Farm strawberry and mint baby shampoo Grin Has worked for itching and flaking for both me and DD and also appears to have fixed my hair loss Shock

Superdrug do a brilliant own brand one called Trichology. Dead cheap and it's solved my itchy flaky scalp that I've had for years.

Try the body shop ginger shampoo I’ve used most around nizoral t gel etc and find it just as good if not better

DariaMorgendorffer · 03/08/2019 17:56

Nizoral. Hate having scalp problems Sad

I cannot live without the Body Shops ginger shampoo! I used to have a really itchy, flaky scalp but found that this soothes the itchiness & stops the flaking completely. I leave it on for a minute or so then rinse & use my usual conditioner, although they do a Body Shop ginger conditioner. I don't use any other shampoo, have used it for a few years now. Also, it's worth looking at why your scalp may have this problem. Too much sugar & yeast in your diet won't help & I have found that it's worth cutting down or trying to eliminate from your diet. I buy the large ginger shampoo, it's about £8 for 400mls but lasts months & so worth it. Good luck!

Another devotee of Body Shop's ginger shampoo. I've tried all the others, with varying success, but the ginger shampoo is the best.

Wow loads more, cheers everyone - a few things to try!

Interesting thought about too much sugar. My diet has absolutely gone to shit in the last few weeks (work is awful and my go-to comfort is food) - it's as though all self control has gone out the window, I'm dragging myself through every work day with only the thought of unrestricted volumes of chocolate or biscuits or cake to keep me going. Today all I have eaten all day is a blueberry muffin and a chocolate donut. Blush

And it does rather coincide with my scalp becoming irrepressibly (I don't know if that's a word but I like it) itchy...

Sorry to hear that you're having a crap time at the moment, sugary treats have become the highlight of your day, it's grim, I've been there!
Try adding some savoury treats, something like aioli dip with carrot & cucumber sticks. Garlic & raw onions are your friends now! You may want to google candida it's possible you may have other symptoms. It's not as hard as it may seem, do you like hummus? Check all ingredients, don't have anything containing yeast or sugar. Some flavoured hummus does contain sugar, caramelised onion does. Try making your own, so easy & add extra garlic. Do you eat much bread? Marmite? All not good!
Cut down on your fruit intake. It's not forever. It really will help, then gradually reintroduce. I know this has really helped me tremendously & actually my taste buds have changed & I no longer crave any sugary treats. However my hummus consumption is through the roof !Grin

I have actually tried cutting out refined sugar altogether in the past - I ended up eating high fat, which everyone found hilarious, but I actually lost weight eating what I wanted as long as it didn't contain any sugar. I was a lot less bloated.

Considering keto but I dunno. I've lost and gained the same 2 stone repeatedly over the last 20 years using a dozen different methods including eat less/move more etc etc, I've had it up to here with dieting. Maybe I'll just own being fat, now I'm pre-menopausal as well!

I've had some relief with E45 shampoo. I use it a couple of times a week, my usual the rest of the time
