Calpol dosage

Hi

Can anyone just reassure me about calpol dosages please?

DD is 7 months and struggling with teething, we are using calpol and dentinox at the moment. I am trying not to give her too much calpol so tend to give her a 2.5ml dose even though I know she can have 5ml.

Am I right in thinking this can be taken four times per day and should be 4 - 6 hours between doses?

I think the box refers to twenty four hours which throws me because if they're on it more than a day or two do you track the twenty four hours from when they first have a dose or do you just class a day as 12 midnight till the following midnight?

I haven't done this but for example as an adult taking paracetamol I would take two every four hours, but I might half the dose taking just one tablet and then take another one two hours later therefore taking the same dosage in a 24hour period just more spaced out.

Can you do that with babies? E. G. Give her a 2.5 ml dose every 2-3 hours upto 8 times in a 24hour period rather than 4mls every 4-6 hours upto 4 times in a 24 hour period.

I appreciate I am probably massively over thinking this but did wonder.

Give her a full dose for her age every 6 hours.
Half dose isn't going to do a great deal tbh, you would probably be better not giving her any at all than non regular half doses.

Always give full dose and I alternated with nurofen for maximum pain relief. So they had 8 doses of medicine a day at the peak of teething.

Write it on the calendar every time you give medicine. Give the full dose.

Thank you everyone. I really needed to be told. Always panicking I'm doing something wrong and in this case where I thought I was doing best for her it seems I am haha! Thank you so much.

She does seem a little better today but still no teeth.

At 8kg. 5ml of calpol is the correct dose for her weight.

I get you OP. But it'd be like us taking half a paracetamol Grin useless..

It probably isn't even teeth. And I really don't think babies NEED pain relief for teething other than something to chew on. At that age they could be getting upset about literally anything. That said the medication won't do any harm but don't feel like you must medicate teething.

Tbf if I have a headache I will take one paracetamol then another if I need it haha! I'm wondering if she is just poorly, she hasn't had any medicine or teething gel today and has been fine but coughing and snotty all day. Nose running like a tap. Poor baby! Hasn't slept since dinnertime so is flat out now.

Followed all your advice at 2am and gave dd the 5ml. She got a decent sleep until 7.30am.

Off to docs today as now pretty sure it's not teeth. Constant runny nose which was clear now green and coughing constantly when awake but worse through the night.
