Oh dear; 12yo dd1 has cut her own hair

Hmm Confused

She's cut it so the front bits (think those bits that were left loose when the rest of your hair was scraped back in the '90's) are about 4" long...apart from one bit.

That one bit...well, she's cut so it's about 1/2" long. So she'll have a lovely tuft when it starts growing back.

I tried to be grumpy mum about it but I can't help laughing every time I see the sticky uppy little bit Grin Grin

Come on ... Pictures please! Hehehehe

I did it when I was 5 or 6. I cut huge chunks from all over (bearing mind it was the 70s) and stuffed in my dressing gown pocket, to keep my kangaroo warm, cos it was cold.... Thank fk not mobile phones back then, to snap n post on FB insta etc. .... A run to the hairdresser's soon sorted it!

I tried to cut.my fringe as an adult, and I didn't realise fringes are usually curved.. mine was straight across (remember Dave from Slade, that was my look!). A friend got some clippers n rescued me... Phew

@macblank that's very sweet that you wanted to keep your kangaroo warm Grin

Unfortunately, I suspect that dd fancies a hair cut but has forgotten how to actually say "Mum, I fancy something different with my hair" Hmm so cut just those bits of it herself

I cut my own hair when I was about 6. I actually did a great job of the cut. Unfortunately I didn’t wash the scissors first and they’d just been used for cutting the rind off bacon.

lucysmam · 01/08/2019 21:28

Just over 4 weeks Ada. Long enough that she'll need a selection of slides to keep it from sticking up.

DS (6) cut his fringe not long back.
He'd had a hair cut about a week or two earlier. I ended up having to do a DIY job all over to reduce the difference in length, and it took two haircuts to get it all back at the right length again.

lucysmam · 01/08/2019 22:35

See, I can sort of understand a small child...experimenting. But at 12yo?? Maybe I should suggest she gets a fringe cut in to sort of disguise it a bit?

When my DD was 14 her and her best friend cut each others hair with nail clippers!!! They both had hair a few inches below the bra strap but they cut it up to their shoulders Confused

lucysmam · 01/08/2019 22:48

I never thought to ask if her best friend has cut hers too! I'll have to find out tomorrow morning.

Is she an Ariana Grande fan? I believe she’s just had a similar 90s haircut Grin

Nyctophilia · 01/08/2019 23:35

My dd did this when little. She had a bob and cut the whole fringe off to a skinhead, she looked like the guitarist from Slade
Her tale was that she was holding the scissors. her brother came running into the room, knocked the scissors out of her hand. they went flying into the air and came down right across her fringe...
Totally believable 🤥

This is why hairdressers are so booked up in the school holidays😂

lucysmam · 02/08/2019 20:08

Alice, you may be onto something there Grin

DD cut a half inch long fringe into her hair when she was about 6 years old ... the night before school photos!
