Nurses / Doctors - advice on a bite?

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 01/08/2019 20:38

Hi. Any advice greatly received on my poor hand ☹️

Something has bitten me last night and it's incredibly swollen and sore.

Walk in centre not very concerned and said go back if I get red lines or it literally feels like fire.

I'm miserable 🤦🏻‍♀️ antihistamines and cream doing nothing. Just getting worse.

Thx.

Have you tried the ant-histamine with hydrocortisone ? That sorted it for me when I had a nite that got inflammed.

ourmamageddon · 01/08/2019 20:44

Needs to be seen could be cellulitis

PinkBlossomInSummer · 01/08/2019 20:46

Draw a line around the swelling first if all. Sorry, that looks nasty and I’d be going back or calling the out of hours GP. It looks like you may have the start of cellulitis from the photo you posted.

@PinkBlossomInSummer @ourmamageddon but this has all stemmed from a bite? You can actually see where whatever it was bit me? Can you get cellulitis from a bite or even if you can then that quickly?

Can you see where you were bitten? Could you try magnesium sulphate to draw out any sting or whatever the little fecker that bit you left behind. I recently had similar on my foot. Used hydrocortisone and oral anti-histamines but still felt like there was something under the skin prickling away at me when I pressed it. I put mag sulph and a plaster on overnight and the relief by morning was huge.

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 01/08/2019 21:17

@federationrep yes I can see where it got me. But it doesn't feel like there's anything in there. Just feels like all my skin around it has reacted.

You can get cellulitis from a bite definitely or a small scratch or spot - any entry point for the infection

PinkBlossomInSummer · 01/08/2019 21:36

This started as a bite, I ended up on IV anti biotics for nearly a week. Honestly, please go and get it checked out.

usernamexox · 01/08/2019 21:43

I'd take ibuprofen and ice that in addition to the oral histamines & antihistamine cream. If that's worse in the morning, ring your GP first thing x

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 01/08/2019 21:56

I will. I've already been to the walk in today and will ring GP again in the morning. It's definitely gotten worse as the day has gone on.

Been and got antibiotics this morning. If they don't make an improvement by tomorrow I have to be admitted and put on a drip. ☹️

usernamexox · 02/08/2019 12:17

Glad you've got antibiotics, hopefully it'll go down now. Is it any less swollen this morning?

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 02/08/2019 12:41

@usernamexox unfortunately not. Worse than last night.

OP posts:
ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 02/08/2019 12:46

Draw around it now so it's easy to see how far it's spreading.

PinkBlossomInSummer · 02/08/2019 19:45

The antibiotics can take a good few hours to kick in. Hopefully they’ll do the job @GiveMummyTheWhizzer and the swelling will go down.

That's looking far more swollen?

Kaykay06 · 02/08/2019 20:50

Usually cellulitis is red firy and tracks up your arm. I wouldn’t take any risks my sister had his from a cat scratch and ended up in hospital quite poorly elevate, take meds, ibuprofen will relieve pain/swelling cool pack may also help but obviously read the advice on packaging so you know it’s suitable for you first. Hope your hand feels better soon Flowers

usernamexox · 02/08/2019 21:49

@GiveMummyTheWhizzer try and keep that arm/ hand elevated up on pillows++overnight🤞 🤞hopefully it'll start improving soon.

usernamexox · 02/08/2019 21:49

Are you still taking the antihistamines too?

Horsemad · 02/08/2019 22:33

Hope you're ok OP but was coming on to say do not hesitate to go back if it doesn't improve. I've just this week seen some horrific pictures of someone's leg that basically went septic after an insect bite.
They were exceptionally lucky that they didn't lose the limb.

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 03/08/2019 07:13

@usernamexox no I didn't realise I should be taking the antihistamines. Taking ibuprofen though.

It's lots better this morning. Pic attached. Smile

Yay for improvement!

Horsemad · 03/08/2019 07:18

That's looking MUCH better! 🙂

PinkBlossomInSummer · 03/08/2019 11:48

What a difference. I’m glad it’s healing ☺️
