How scary. I can't imagine how worried people must be at being told they have to leave. Hopefully it'll hold rather than collapsing.

Very worrying, we are about 10 mins away and have friends who have been evacuated. It's absolutely hammering it down again as well Sad

TattiePants · 01/08/2019 19:22

It must be terrifying for the people living directly below the breached wall. If it does go then the force of the water is going to do some serious damage - way above the flooding in Cheshire and other parts of Derbyshire which are bad enough. DH is a Civil Engineer that specialises in flooding and it really scares me how busy he has been in the last 10 years and it seems to be getting worse.

QuestionableMouse · 01/08/2019 19:29

Might sound stupid but I can't stop thinking about all the pets that are stuck at home and their owners can't get to them.

Water has always really scared me. I grew up on the coast so I've seen what it can do since I was tiny. Really hoping it doesn't collapse.

Are you and your friends safe pineapple?

They were telling people to get pets and valuables out on social media and local news all day. Hopefully people did.

Sad to see a really old lady in a wheelchair being led into the local school where people are sleeping. It looked like she needed to be somewhere better. And a bit eek to watch all the engineers standing on the bridge at the top of the dam that looked attached to the bit that was collapsing.

Pineapplesgrowonbushes · 01/08/2019 19:47

We are fine as live above the reservoir so are safe. Friends have either gone to stay with family or gone to the school in next town. Couldn't get to us as road is closed Sad

QuestionableMouse · 01/08/2019 20:46

Glad someone is taking care of the pets.

It is bloody scary.

Glad you're okay pineapple (and your friends)

Glad someone started a thread. It must be simply terrifying if your home is in the path of what could be terrible destruction.

I’m sending up a prayer that that dam holds and am all ears for advice on practical support.

The local paper is live updating its story, lots of information here

Those poor people Sad I hope the Dam holds up and all Emergency workers are safe Sad

Violetroselily · 01/08/2019 21:49

Stuff of nightmares.

Fingers crossed it continues to hold and everyone remains safe.

Squiff70 · 01/08/2019 22:01

It's REALLY bloody scary for people living and working in the area. I hope the dam holds and that homes and businesses are unscathed.

Biiscuits · 01/08/2019 22:33

I find this really scary, seeing the aerial shot of the houses and school below the dam was shocking. I really hope it doesn't burst.

ScaryBunnyPainting · 02/08/2019 01:11

We are about 7 miles away and our town has had a lot of flooding over the last few days. I can’t stand to think about what the poor people in Whaley are going though up there.
Also just saw that New Mills and FV are being evacuated too and that some of the gardens at Lyme Park have washed away.

Robinhood123 · 02/08/2019 02:26

I'm in Whaley. Live a bit up the hill. They haven't evacuated us as yet but no sleep here. Stay safe everyone x

I'm about 7 miles away too. We are going to walk down into Marple Bridge later to see how to Goyt is coping with all the extra water. Thankfully it's a beautiful day so fingers crossed there's no rain later.
