Non see-through school blouses

I'm trying to find Dd some white, long-sleeve school shirts that you can't see her underwear through to start secondary. I've tried Next, MandS and the local school wear suppliers. In all of them you can see her bra plain as day. Can you please recommend a good place to try?

She's pretty mortified about having hit puberty relatively early anyway but it's been OK at primary as they wear polo shirts.

She's the type that likes to be super organised, and is nervous about her new school, so I want to sort it out as soon as possible for her.

Any ideas?

Why don't you try flash coloured bras?

bestbefore · 01/08/2019 10:30

Flesh!! Ie nude coloured

Have you tried the m and s long sleeve shirts? My DD has some and they seem to be a slightly thicker fabric and they are less see through.

Fabellini · 01/08/2019 10:32

I’ve never found the school shirts from any of those places to be particularly see through - but if you/your daughter are concerned then a nude bra might be easier to source, rather than an impenetrable shirt.

sheshootssheimplores · 01/08/2019 10:34

Would she be allowed to wear a vest top underneath? I live in sports tops as an adult so I’d go for something like that.

AveEldon · 01/08/2019 10:35

I found John Lewis to be better than M&S

MeadowHay · 01/08/2019 10:37

I don't know about this specifically but when I went to sixth form (which was not decades ago as I'm only mid -twenties) my new school uniform was white shirts and I had shirts from...JL I think? They were a thicker material than some other places but even then you could see through them a bit and I come from a religious/cultural background where that was deemed inappropriate even with a white or flesh coloured bra so I always wore a cheap white vest top/crop top/boob tube under them. But in summer that did make me very hot.

sheshootssheimplores · 01/08/2019 10:38

This kind of thing on amazon would be perfect

Buy white cami tops for underneath, but shirts tend to be less transparent once washed once

sheshootssheimplores · 01/08/2019 10:40

I have to say that all material has got thinner so this doesn’t surprise me at all. Shirts from even five years ago would be a better quality garment.

AppleKatie · 01/08/2019 10:42

White vest tops are your friend here.

At school I either wore these or kept my jumper on.

It’s shit and one of the many reasons white shirts are rubbish for uniform.

hazeyjane · 01/08/2019 10:46

I think John Lewis are slightly better. I got some flesh coloured crop tops that have been ok.

Jammiebammie · 01/08/2019 10:50

Definitely nude or pink/red toned bras are seen less under white shirts.
My dd is the same and bloody wore jumpers all through the summer (even though you couldn’t really see her bra!). Have a couple of shirts from new look that are quite thick, otherwise individually bought blouses rather than packs seem thicker too - Abercrombie, hollister etc have some nice ones, but they are dearer.

dementedpixie · 01/08/2019 10:53

Dd wears nude coloured bras

wowfudge · 01/08/2019 11:23

Flesh coloured bras don't show.

HalloumiGus · 01/08/2019 11:27

Definitely flesh coloured bras instead of white.

KMoKMo · 01/08/2019 11:31

Another vote for flesh coloured bras or crop tops. The difference is amazing.

PhantomErik · 01/08/2019 11:53

Go for flesh or 'almond' (as they are sometimes called) coloured bras as they're all but invisable under white tops.

Kpo58 · 01/08/2019 12:33

We are all assuming that OPs daughter has pale skin. If she has dark coloured skin, then the flesh colour bras would show up and black might be the better choice.

Jammiebammie · 01/08/2019 13:24

@Kpo58 that’s why I said pink/red toned, as some shades of reds are almost invisible under white clothes when you have darker skin.

margaritasbythesea · 01/08/2019 17:22

Thanks for all your replies. I shall try John Lewis. Her current bras are a sort of dusty pink but I'll have a look at some others. If not, a vest (let's hope it's a cold September, eh?).

The ones I've had really have been transparent, including the long-sleeved ones from Marks. I think it's rubbish. I'd happily pay a premium for a shirt that actually covers up so that she's happy , but I don't see why I should have to.
