Airbags and child in front seat

Can anyone link to definitive advice re what height and weight it is considered safe for someone sitting in the front seat of a car with an active airbag?
I am aware of all of the seatbelt rules for children, and that it is recommended that all under 13 years sit in the back, but I cannot find anything about small 14 year olds etc!

I have find out quite hard to find a definitive answer on this too!

I am going with leaving airbag on but pushing the seat back as far as it goes. Hope that's ok!

As far as I know only rewards facing child seats in the front require airbags to be deactivated. A child sitting forward facing may do so with airbags on so long as they are in an age/weight appropriate child seat

There isn't a minimum age for front seat sitting. If they are in the front in an appropriate carseat then just make sure the seat is as far back from the dashboard as you can get it. Although at that age they don't need a carseat

You need to look at your car manual as different cars will have different recommendations. Airbags are designed for adults. So really if there's any question, the child should sit in the back. Obvs that might be impossible with a full car so the manual is where you'll get your answer.

The age 13 applies to the US rather than here although some car manuals prohibit children in the front seat.

How tall is the 14yo?

BertieBotts · 01/08/2019 11:50

A 14yo is considered an adult in car passenger terms which is probably why no info. For example legally they are responsible for their own seatbelt.
