Can anyone talk to me about period cycle length in perimenopause

Firstly, thanks for looking at the thread, I know it's not the most thrilling subject Grin
I reckon I've been in perimenopause around 5 years. Periods cycles have been varied but within around 24-30 days for most of that, past year or so it's gone even more erratic, so now eg. 31 days one month, 21 days the next. Periods went from ultra heavy and lasting ages to now shorter and maybe only heavy the first day or two.

Hot flushes have ramped up and probably mood swings Blush no waistline, dry hair, all the usual suspects, but not so bad that I want HRT just yet.

Question is, do we think it's likely to be years before my periods stop? I thought the cycles were getting further apart and that was a good sign, but now a random one of the bastards is here about 20 days since the last one.
Help oh wise ones

Im new on here and am hoping someone can give me some advice.. ill b 40 next month my moods are awful before a period and not great otherwise! I get hot flushes, bloating , aches and palpitations occasionally.. ive been tested to check if its perimenopause but apparently its not.. then last 3 months only had 1 day of light bleeding when my period used to last 5 days.. had my 21 day progesterone checked and im not ovulating.. sounds like im peri to me! What do u think ladies?

.Brain fog, depression, aching joints, nsomnia, Fatigue, restless legs, frozen shoulder, virtigo, dizziness, anxiety , chin hair, no waste, ibs, hot flushes and sweating when just doing the hoovering has taken its toll. Ive been on hrt now for about 18 mths and wouldn't have it any other way. Still sweating but able to sleep a full six hours is shear bliss. Wouldn't have it any other way. Don't have any periods as had coil fitted. 48 yes old and counting!

Had all ur symptoms of peri along with quite a few other women colleagues in healthcare at same time ..jumped onto HRT wagon and none of us looked back..safer now and pretty awesome check out new guidelines..i will never ever want to suffer like that again and that was just the beginning of it!

Sounds like it sdwnsh
Interesting to hear about the hrt experiences too, does sound good if it gets rid of all those symptoms.

I'm 50 soon. Periods still regular as clockwork but shorter cycle. Every 22 day with heavy 2 days then 2 days of dribble.

uk.iherb.com/pr/Now-Foods-Melatonin-3-mg-60-Capsules/14810 I sleep well using melatonin from here.

My periods stopped two years ago, early 40s. This year I've had 3 🙄. Only lasted 3 days. Because I was seeing gynae urology they asked for a scan. All fine. I have 3 or 4 eggs left so expect a few more bleeds.
I have crazy hot flushes. Sometimes 20 a day, they start with a feeling in my stomach and then my head just leaks.... it's a bastard if I've got hairspray on!!
I now have back spots I never had before, FML....

LayingGhostsToRest · 02/08/2019 10:17

All sounds very familiar! I too had 3 periods in a month, followed by 2 months in between, followed by 3 weeks in between...plenty of PMT, disturbed sleep, constipation.

Menopause. Can’t. Come. Soon. Enough.

My commiserations. I'm probably at the very peak of perimenopausal hell at 52. All your symptoms, the nest of hair, itchy skin, painful left boob? 🤔 Mood swings, lack of energy, weight gain...
plus I have fibroids and a bulky uterus so long periods despite the Mirena, but told the progesterone probably helping as they aren't so heavy. Gynaecologist agreed that 'women are poorly designed for modern life'. 🙄Sleep routine probably vital now and I struggle with that as I always slept too late and too little. Camomile tea at night if it works for you before trying other things, limit caffeine, sugar, exercise for the sanity of those around you as well as for your own ( cardio, resistance training for all the bone and muscle loss to come with the hormones starting to desert us after they've had their wild party ) the adrenaline helps big time even if its a swim or a walk . I got caught up in being too tired to exercise, so even more tired and cranky for a while). I take magnesium and calcium and flaxseed and starflower and Vit C ( I know, I know, but desperate!) It seems to help. I also do some Mindfulness, ( or you could try any other contemplative practice). And I'm trying to watch the calories after reading about women over 50 needing about 200 to 500 less so I don't have more to lose when it's all over.. Not easy this. My friends who have made it to the other side assure me things will get better and body and mind more under control! I see it as a bit of a campaign and horrified that there is so little out there other than HRT to help. A word with the partner and kids about what's happening probably wise...Nothing in the workplace set up for us which annoys me no end. Good luck sistahs.

I think everyone is very different.

I skipped 2 periods age 41. Went to the GP who tested me for the menopause as I was pretty young.

I've not had a period since or any side effects. I'm now 46.

Massive thanks to OP for posting. I've just turned 50, had a couple of 'lukewarm' flushes about a year ago, periods were regular as clockwork up until May, when I had nothing. June a week of incredibly light flow. Nothing until 2 weeks ago on Monday, where it started and has yet to stop. Trouble sleeping in the last week. Dear lord, guessing this is it.

Cinammoncake · 02/08/2019 19:14

Thanks PolaDeVeboise I'm glad the thread has helped. I hope this period is the grand finale and that it ends soon Flowers
