Consumer Rights/Swops/Discounts

I bought a hat in a sale a few days ago. I noticed today as I was wrapping it that it is damaged. I have got another 12 days to return it but I now see it has been discounted further and now is £3 cheaper than when I bought it.

Will I be eligible to swop it and have the £3 back or will it just be a straight swop, keeping it at the price I bought it?

Many thanks.

You can have a straight swap or have a refund for the current price I think. It might be different seeing that it’s faulty.

When I worked in a shop, I would have refunded you the price you paid and then sold you the item again at the cheaper price, so you got the best deal. I would have too because the till would scan your reciept at the price you paid, and scan the replacement item and the current sale price.

On the other hand it it was bought on sale at £10 and then you returned it because it was faulty, but it was back to full price, I would do a straight swap to ensure you still paid only £10.

We always did it so the customer got the best deal.

Bottom line though, if it's faulty you are entitled to a refund or a replacement. Shops won't enforce you taking a replacement, so just ask for a refund due to the fault. Then buy it again at the cheaper price!

As long as you didn't buy it as a "damaged so on sale" item.
