Come and talk to me if you use liquid soap in your washing machine

This stuff made by Dri Pak. I need some tips and advice please!

It seems to be the only thing I've tried that doesn't make me itch, so I don't have any other options. (Already tried several other products, all of which are awful). But it seems to be leaving a bit of a greasy residue on some of my clothes, even though I did an extra rinse cycle at the end. I followed the amount for hard water but it was clearly too much so I washed some other stuff with a smaller amount of liquid, but I'm still getting the greasiness problem.

Also some of my clothes have still got the smell of the previous product I used and I can't seem to get rid of it even though I've done a few washes. I feel like some of my clothes (but not others, no idea why) have been ruined by the previous product so the clothes still make me feel itchy. I find it very difficult to find clothes that fit properly in the first place so I cannot just go and buy new ones.

Please help!

I've been using Ecover Zero for a couple of years but they changed their ingredients a few months ago, which is when this whole problem started. It used to be fine but now they've turned it into awful stuff, so that's why I had to stop using it.

Try soaking them in plain water, then rinse in plain water, dry in fresh air for as long as possible.

Modern machines are not intended to use much water which has a lot to do with these problems. I always press the extra water/extra rinse button, and often run a second wash without anything added.

Bicarbonate of soda and vinegar are not a good combination, if you mix them together they fizz which is fine for cleaning a pan or oven but not good for laundry.

Run an empty wash on the hottest wash your machine does with just soda crystals..give the machine a right good boil wash

Then start fresh - very small amount of soap liquid + 2 tblspoons white vinegar in the softer compartment in the drawer

Dr Bronner's liquid castile soap is very gentle and can be used in the machine.

I used to use ecover until they changed the recipe. I’ve not found another suitable laundry product to buy so I’m making my own from grated carbolic soap, bicarbonate of soda, washing soda and some salt. I wash at 40 on a longer cycle because the carbolic soap activates at higher temperature. If your washer has an extra rinse cycle that might help.
I made a small amount up to test it then made a huge amount so I only make the washing powder every 6 months or so

Thank you everyone. I cannot believe what a shambles this has become. Washing clothes in a washing machine was always such a basic, easy task before this.

I wonder if your machine is lime scaled up, and the vinegar and stuff isn't really shifting it? No idea what to suggest though, apart from I haven't seen you say you've done a hot (50/60 degree) wash with the liquid soap, try that?

Can you try handwashing the leggings? What about trying a shower gel that you know is safe on your skin, in the wash? You could even potentially use a hair conditioner as a softener maybe?

Tumble drying towels with a tennis ball or two works to soften them too.

I agree the eco settings have gone too far and are suddenly Noor Raitt cleaning clothes or in the case of my dryer, not properly drying them Hmm

  • Not really, not Noor Raitt, damn autocorrect
tectonicplates · 03/08/2019 18:51

I am considering hand washing them with the soap I use in the shower.

@tectonicplates - I know this is a while back but wondering if you ever resolved this issue and how? Did you find something that worked for you?
