Does anyone use a light therapy lamp?

I think that’s what I mean.

I’ve always known I was affected by the weather but last week when it was gorgeous all week I felt absolutely amazing (I wasn’t even out in it that much as was working but I just woke up everyday feeling great) bags of energy, got loads of work done, even started (and finished!) some DIY I’ve been putting off. This week is back to drizzly grey weather and my mood is in my boots. I didn’t realise how lethargic I am permanently until I felt so great last week. (And now back to lethargy)

Would a light therapy lamp (if that’s the thing I mean?) help with this? Would I feel great if I used one every morning or would the effects lessen as I got accustomed to it?

Any advice greatfully received. I want to be the me of last week, permanently.

Yes I do.

Not in the summer though, even on dull days there are enough hours of daylight to keep me going.

I use mine on dull days between the clocks going back and the middle of January - I find my mood lifts considerably as soon as we pass the shortest day in December.

Is the one I have, cost about £40. It's REALLY bright. You need to have it fairly close to your face to feel the benefit. I usually sit it on the arm of the sofa while i'm on the laptop or sewing or something. My doctor is skeptical but I think it helps me and that's the main things.

The other thing which really helps is exercise. Doesn't have to be strenuous. A 30 minute walk in the fresh air does wonders.

Thank you otra, I’m trying to get into a routine of exercising every day but it’s mornings that are killing me. My day goes how my morning goes. If I wake up feeling like death my day is generally a very slow struggle. I was planning to use the lamp as soon as I wake to give me a kickstart. Would that work?

Whatever works for you. My routine in the darker months is either a walk after the kids have gone to school around 9, home for 10, shower and work (i'm freelance and work at home). If it's dark/wet I sit in front of the light box for 30 minutes instead. Just try various things and see what works for you.

My DH has one. He has crippling depression and grey weather certainly doesn't help, so the lamp at least takes the edge off.... I've been known to gently (or not so gently) instruct him to spend time in front of it when his mood dives and it's a big help in the morning. It wasn't all that expensive, so it sounds worth a try. Also - I have a Lumie sunrise lamp (a bit more expensive) which magically helps me wake up a nicer person.

My doctor recommended one last September. It made a massive difference within a few days.

Thanks everyone! I’ve ordered one. Will look into the lumie sunrise lights too! Thanks tolive.

I use a Lumie sunrise light too during the winter. Makes a massive difference to my mood.
