Easyjet has no weight restriction for hand luggage, right?

Just that really. We are flying Easyjet in a week. All I'm getting when googling is that only bag per person and it has to fit specific dimensions BUT there's no weight limit.

Am I right? Just thought I'd check as it seems a tad too good to be true.

www.easyjet.com/en/help/baggage/cabin-bag-and-hold-luggage seems to be true

GiantKitten · 30/07/2019 16:54

The only restriction is that you must be able to lift it into a locker yourself.

But very often with easyJet they’ll put cabin suitcases into the hold at the gate (free) so you don’t even have to do that! (Soft bags usually ok)

FizzBuzzBangWoof · 30/07/2019 16:55

I believe that as long as you are capable of lifting it to in the overhead lockers then weight isn't an issue

Most airlines have a 10kg limit which is more than enough anyway unless you're planning to fill it with bricks!

You’re not supposed to also have eg a handbag though. If they’re being strict you have to be able to cram a separate bag inside the cabin bag until you get on the plane.

(They’re usually very reasonable though. I love easyJet Smile)

You have to be able to lift it yourself into the locker. My full suitcase only weighed 13kg when I went skiing so I doubt it can ever weigh more than 10kg

I think Tyler Brulé wrote a delightful article for the financial times about this years ago. Giving the example of a grandmother who wouldn't be able to lift even the lightest bag into the overhead locker. Versus the potential to carry a bag full of lead weighing however many kilos.

Ironfloor269 · 30/07/2019 17:12

Yes, noted the bit about being able to carry it and not having a hand bag. Well, I will be carrying a hand bag but will put it in the carry on bag if need be.

I think as long as its not obviously heavy they dont mind. DH once took the mick and had a cast iron pan in his hand luggage hahaha

NoKnit · 30/07/2019 17:32

Think need common sense is needed, if there is turbulence and the overhead locker flings open would you mind your bag falling on your head? I think anything over 6kg is dangerous and really not necessary, just pack light

Ironfloor269 · 30/07/2019 17:46

Yes, I know. I'm packing light. It's just that my luggage alone weighs 2.5kg. So if Easyjet had a weight limit like other airlines I.e. 7kg, that'd leave me with only 4kg worth of clothes to carry.

I regularly have 12-13kg (and case isn't maximum size). Its books etc that makes it heavy. Hold luggage is 23kg. (We also had a Christmas cake in there once... That was a few kg alone.)

NoKnit · 30/07/2019 19:34

You can get a fair few clothes for 4kg considering it is summer

ElizaPancakes · 30/07/2019 19:36

It’s true they don’t have weight restrictions but I’d have a light tote or something in case they ask you to check it which they sometimes do so you can get your essentials out.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/07/2019 19:44

I wonder if the 'you must be able to lift it into the overhead locker yourself' breaches equality legislation?

Anyone really short, or with certain disabilities, might not be able to put an empty case in there, but a power lifter could probably put a case of lead weights up there.

Smallest limit I know about is 5 kg, so you'd really only be able to take a small light bag, most are 10 kg, which is about what a wheelie case full of clothes and other bits weighs conveniently and some airlines like (I think) KLM allow a bigger, heavier case into the cabin.

GiantKitten · 30/07/2019 19:51

I imagine those physically unable would be exempt?

lljkk · 30/07/2019 19:55

The size limits for carry-on with EasyJet are pretty darn strict.

Doesthiscountasausername · 30/07/2019 20:06

I flew with them very recently and while I had space for my handbag in my case no one mentioned that I was carrying two pieces of luggage. I’m also on the shorter side and had flight attendants offer to place it in the over head for me so don’t think that will be an issue if it’s normal luggage you are taking
