Has anyone ever ordered 'seconds' by EB? In particular, mugs?

I've had my eye on a specific mug for a while but I can justify the £20 price tag. They're selling the same one in seconds for £7.

Just wondering how they are?

Yes they are fine, I've ordered quite a bit labelled as seconds and often I can't even see any faults at all.

They mark the area where the problem is with a wife off marker, which just wipes off with a cloth!

thefloogals · 30/07/2019 15:37

Thanks!

Does suppose you would happen to know the answer but - If it was a terribly obvious fault, do they accept returns on seconds?

Cally71 · 31/07/2019 21:39

It depends on the fault, if it's a fault in the print then no, glazed over chips are acceptable, pin pricks are also acceptable as the dont affect their use x

Thingywhatsit · 31/07/2019 21:47

I usually buy seconds - never had one with an obvious defect, so no one knows!!!

SistersOfPercy · 31/07/2019 23:07

I live near the factory so seconds are always available. Can't actually tell why some of my mugs are seconds and I come from a long line of potters and lithographers in the industry.

I'd always buy seconds.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 31/07/2019 23:17

I buy seconds and I honestly couldn’t tell you where the fault is!

thefloogals · 01/08/2019 09:40

Ahhhh! I wish I'd seen these earlier.

I bit the bullet and treated myself to a 'proper' one.

Thanks everyone!

I love EB-all of my stuff is seconds!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 01/08/2019 09:46

The seconds might have a flaw in the glazing or a dent in the pottery but honestly they still look lovely and hold a cup of coffee perfectly!

FrappeLatte · 01/08/2019 09:46

Where do you buy seconds from? Love EN stuff but just can’t afford it!

FrappeLatte · 01/08/2019 09:46

EB ... fat fingers Hmm

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/08/2019 09:47

Ahhhh! I wish I'd seen these earlier.

Bloody hell OP, you only posted middle of Wednesday afternoon, had replies within minutes - but by Thursday morning you'd already bought a full price mug and were saying you wished you'd seen the replies "earlier"?

I'd hate to see you if you were really in a rush!

Ragwort · 01/08/2019 09:47

Yes they are fine, just bought 10 in the sale, got some deal with 2 free plus another free gift & free P & P. Check their website.

Ragwort · 01/08/2019 09:49

sisters, is it worth a trip to the factory? I love EB designs but live a couple of hours away but happy to make a trip if it is a good day out?

RubberTreePlant · 01/08/2019 09:50

Ragwort, we live about 25 minutes from the factory and go a lot, it's a lovely day out. My 4 children love the pottery painting studio and have done the "clay and play" sessions as well, a bargain at £2.50 per child. I have done the factory your with my big girls too, at 10 and 12 they loved it and it was very intetesting. Again, only £2.50 and kids are free. Lots of themed activities for children too in the holidays. The cafe is great as well, lovely homemade cake and not too expensive, plus the court yard is lovely to sit in, as is the walled garden.

Regarding the seconds shop there, it's fab! All my E B is from there and there are often deals on things too. Last month they had lots of Christmas mugs, plates etc in there so I stocked up with presents. Really pleased.

It is worth a visit if you are not too far away. Can you tell its one of my favourite places to go?!

expectingnumber3 · 01/08/2019 11:10

Your should read tour. Sorry!

Al2O3 · 01/08/2019 12:29

We get them. A perfect one would get chipped within a few weeks anyway.

SistersOfPercy · 01/08/2019 13:24

@Ragwort completely!

Don't just visit EB though, we have a few really good factory shops in the area from Wedgwood and Royal Doulton to Portmerion. Churchill China can also be brilliant as they have a lot of licensed stuff like Jamie Oliver and in the past, Cath Kidston.
You can spend half a day at EB's, then head to Wedgwood which is set in the most beautiful countryside with a museum and tea rooms.

Just don't visit at the weekend if you want to take in other Factory Shops as some are closed.

Ragwort · 03/08/2019 18:15

Thanks so much for all the positive comments about a trip to EB & other factories, definitely planning a day out now Smile.

Fuzzyfrogs03 · 03/08/2019 18:46

Hi everyone

Could I just clarify something? I feel I have been really dippy! My OH went to the factory shop a few weeks ago and sent me a few photos of items but said there was a black marker running through some of the prints. I think we presumed that this was the fault.... is this the mark that you are talking about above that just shows where the fault is? If so.... I talked my OH out of buying some lovely new pieces.... whoops :(

SistersOfPercy · 03/08/2019 18:46

@Ragwort DM me if you need any help 😁
