I've just sat down to watch what feels like the millionth episode I've seen of something special! My ds just loves it!

Do you ever think that, whenever Justin is singing the hello song, he's just secretly thinking about having a beer or something?

Do you ever think he gets sick of being that happy?

Do you think he's secretly sick of all the songs?!

(Lighthearted obviously!)

Oh I love something special. I've been learning baby sign language with DD and I use it to learn new signs. DD waves at the TV when he sings the hello and goodbye songs, and I always sing and sign to the friends song 😂

DobbyTheHouseElk · 30/07/2019 15:37

I think he imagines his hefty pay packet and that helps!!

I have heard that he does amazing things for SEN children who watch, so I can’t get too worked up by him.

VictorianWoman · 30/07/2019 15:38

He must be 100 now👴 My DS(14) used to watch it as a toddler.

firstimemamma · 30/07/2019 15:42

@Jinglejanglefish I love it too really and often sing too!

@DobbyTheHouseElk good point!

@VictorianWoman god didn't realise he'd been around that long!

I have the feeling that he’s probably a really decent bloke. Someone who makes small kids and small kids with additional needs happy is a good egg to me.

ElspethFlashman · 30/07/2019 15:46

No I think he's really committed. But then isn't he the producer? It's his whole show. So imagine he does it how he fancies.

I read an interview with Justin once where he said before the first one he had to have this mad intensive crazy Makaton course over a weekend, or something mad like that. I think he's really good at talking to non-verbal kids. There have been a couple of episodes where the kids were going a bit off-script in their excitement and Justin just chuckled and kept it moving.

That said, his heart clearly resides in Gigglebiz.

I love Gigglebiz, it's fucking hilarious, just admit it.

Singleandproud · 30/07/2019 15:48

I saw him in the Railway children, there were several adults and children with SEN at the stage door at the end and he came out and spent a lot of time signing with them etc. He seemed genuinely happy and a nice guy.

Singleandproud · 30/07/2019 15:49

His nursery rhyme dvds are good too. Although DD has long since grown out of them.

TheVanguardSix · 30/07/2019 15:51

I took DC1 (now 17) to see him live on stage years ago!

DC3 is 5 and stopped watching Mr. Tumble when he was about 3, so Mr. T is no longer a household conundrum. I've had my weird crush on him, my 'is he fulfilled in life' deep analysis of him, my 'what a weirdo' moments when he dresses up as aunt polly, my 'what a compassionate soul-back-to-weird-crush' return.

I just wonder why I age and he doesn't. He enjoyed dressing up as Aunt Polly a bit too much though, didn't he/doesn't he?
All joking aside, he's done amazing work and has absolutely shed a positive light on SEN. He's a good egg for sure.

TheVanguardSix · 30/07/2019 15:51

His (Justin Fletcher) spotifly playlist is good. It's a bit like ravey cBeebies.

He did a webchat on here.

ElspethFlashman · 30/07/2019 15:55

He also does Anne Teaque, Gale Force and Dina Lady in Gigglebiz. He loves a bit of drag, does Justin.

They're all hilarious.

GettickledGETTICKLEDbyspiders · 30/07/2019 15:56

He doesn’t seem to have aged and he’s never grumpy. Maybe he’s not real Shock

MooMummy12 · 30/07/2019 15:58

I think if I was worth as much as him I'd be happy all the time 😂

ElspethFlashman · 30/07/2019 16:02

Some fabled MNer shagged him at university. It's proper MN legend. We don't know if it's true, but we want it to be. 😂

Sirzy · 30/07/2019 16:02

Ds is 9 and autistic and has just rediscovered something special. The two years off was lovely.

He is very annoying but also very good at what he does!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 30/07/2019 16:02

We have outgrown MR T in this house, but it always amused me when I asked the DC if mr tumble and Justin were the same person. They looked at me in horror and said “no, they aren’t the same person!”

Livebythecoast · 30/07/2019 16:08

Yes, he's been around years! DD15 used to love him!
And The Backyardigans
And Balamory
And Peppa sodding pig who is still going strong apparently- always wondered why everything is on a hill?, school, house, church, playground
Anyway, I digress.......

Zalie · 30/07/2019 17:15

We filmed an episode of Something Special with Justin. He's very quiet and calm in person, although obviously great with the kids. The filming day was very long, but the on set atmosphere from all the crew was very lighthearted and totally special-needs friendly.

I still loathe Gigglebiz though!

fourquenelles · 30/07/2019 17:23

He appears every year in my town's Panto. He has a smutty side but it's all delivered with a cheeky grin.

chickensaresafehere · 30/07/2019 17:26

My dd2 adores him,she has SN & is non verbal, she's now 12 & still watches 'Something Special'.
They filmed one at her special school & right at the end she's right next to him in a group of people & she's totally looking in the other direction at something else that's caught her eye (she's an ardent people watcher!).When I got to see it I was shouting like mad at the tv 'TURN AROUND !!!!! Your hero is right behind you!!!
I love that he has made makaton more common, when I tell people dd2 cannot speak I always say 'But she uses makaton, like Mr Tumble' and (most) people understand.

WelshMammaofaSlovak · 30/07/2019 17:40

I love Something Special - it's just lovely with stories that are genuinely entertaining and I love the way he uses Makaton. I'm an SEN teacher and I really think he's fabulous with the children and they clearly adore him so he must be nice because there's no way severely SEN kids will perform well if he wasn't being nice to them. I live in Slovakia now and am the mother of a Slovak toddler and it's one of the few programmes that I really feel that she really engages with. Also, I love the fact that it means that she gets to see a more diverse representation of people - Slovak tv, and sadly society in general, has nothing like this so I think it's really important for her. We've just been back in the UK and she also liked Justine's House which is actually the one that I think must drive him to beer - all those tinies in one small area screaming and dancing!!! He is one brave dude!!!

x2boys · 30/07/2019 18:50

I find him annoying and irritating ,and my son has severe autism and learning disabilities and is] non verbal ,they filmed at my sons special school thoughHmm

TheJoxter · 30/07/2019 18:53

I seem to be the only person ever who can’t stand him! Although someone I know met him (not at an event or anything) and said he was really rude to them
