Should I continue with antibiotics

Quick question for any medical people on here.
My 11 month old was misdiagnosed with tonsillitis on Sunday night. Started antibiotics yesterday, had 3 doses but then when we brought him to the hospital with high temperature last night, they diagnosed gastroenteritis.

Should I continue with course of antibiotics? Even though they say never to stop, it's not treating anything!

Thanks

You should really phone your doctor for advice on that!!

Always complete the course. Not doing so leads to potential re-infection plus contributes to the global problem of antibiotic resistance.

Speak to your doctor. Hope l.o. is on the mend.

Yes you must. People not finishing courses of antibiotics is one of the causes of antibiotic resistance.

If you took him to the hospital then why on earth didnt you ask them rather than a forum ?

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/07/2019 16:44

No, I wouldn't, as you say, they aren't treating anything.
Of course do ask a professional though.

Thanks for replies.

I understand completely re finishing say a 5 day course after being ill if you feel better on day 3 and just couldn't be bothered.

But this just seems mad to me, he was mis-diagnosed and they've admitted it's not treating anything! Why the need?

Of the 3 teaspoons I gave him, he vomited up m/spat up a good chunk of it too.

A pharmacist friend agrees with me.

I did ask the hospital, but they seemed to just churn out the standard line, without being able to explain to me why.

How do you know he was misdiagnosed? Maybe things changed between the first assessment and the second?
