Best gift for homeless beach sleeper

Today I met a lady sleeping rough on the beach. She had a little tent in a little cave and looked fairly well set up. She said she's been there for months since her house was repossessed, while she was waiting for council to find her something. The lifeguards knew she was there.
I asked her if she needed anything and offered to buy her a cup of tea but she refused.
Now a storm has set in and I feel awful. I'd like to check in on her tomorrow and give her something useful. Any ideas? I thought maybe a flask full of tea she can reuse. My dh says a gas stove but that's bulky. Thanks

Flask sounds nice but where would she refill it?

There is a guy who sleeps rough near my office, I buy him a Gregg's voucher every couple of weeks or one for sainsbury's ( right near where he sleeps). He buys bacon rolls and coffee a lot and toiletries & fruit! ( toothpaste and deodorant) he tells me and shows me some of the bits hes bought! We chat a bit and he's said before he likes choosing things, he doesn't get much opportunity to buy anything he wants.
X

Thanks. She is not near to a town though. Just a beach with a cafe and bar.

Dry clean socks
A few supplies from a local shop
Water, food
A flask seems a good idea if there is a local cafe she can get it filled
You may not want to give money and that's fine, but if you want to pay money to the cafe for her they may accept you putting £20 behind the till for her each time she goes in

Could you speak to the cafe and set up a tab for x amount per day to spend on whatever food she wants?

Poetryinaction · 29/07/2019 21:44

Thanks all. The lifeguards have a hut on the beach with a kitchen so I was hoping they would refill her flask for her.

I’d suggest toiletries, maybe deodorant, san pro and wet wipes. Laundering clothes might be hard for her, is there a solution you may be able to offer her? Dry clean clothes are always welcome when you’re sleeping rough. Also a torch, but she’s probably already got one!

Thanks for being kind.

Cereal bars, fruit, bottled water if she doesn't have access to a tap, blow up pillow, sunscreen, fan, disposable bbq, canned ringpull food like flavoured tuna.

Or you could just give her a fiver and let her choose herself.

Dry shampoo, deodorant, wet wipes, socks, thermos mug, she will be happy that you cared more that the gifts.
