Help me name my business?

HelpMeNameMyBuisness · 29/07/2019 16:19

NC as quite outing and I don't want people I know seeing some of my previous posts.

I'm starting my own beauty business, il be offering gel nails, lash extensions, lift and tint, gel extensions, waxing and spray tanning. I was thinking of ScarlettRose Beauty after my daughter but now I'm thinking it's a bit naff. My name is Harley, (awful) I want something a bit different, but classy and catchy. Any ideas??

I like Scarlett Rose Beauty!

HelpMeNameMyBuisness · 29/07/2019 16:29

From a new client perspective would it be weird though as my name isn't Scarlett rose?

Would it work to just call it after the name of your town or area? Newtown Nails or Newtown Beauty etc?

FrangipaniBlue · 29/07/2019 16:39

There is a beauty salon near me called Scarlett Beauty after the owners daughter - it's a lovely name and no one bats an eyelid that it's not the owners name Smile

HelpMeNameMyBuisness · 29/07/2019 16:57

@tectonicplates there's already one round here so I wouldn't be able to do that 😬

Have you written a business plan yet? It doesn't have to be too onerous, but it will help you think through things like how much you will charge, how much you need to make each month to survive, what your competitors are doing, how you'll promote yourself and so on.

The Prince's Trust has a really useful template on their website, and if you're under 30 you can do their enterprise course for free (and you get a small grant to get you started)

Snollygoster2019 · 29/07/2019 22:19

Harlequins

HelpMeNameMyBuisness · 30/07/2019 08:30

@DodgyGenes I'm going to have to have a look at that. I don't have a business plan as such, I know roughly what I'm aiming to charge, and I know il need to earn around £60 a day to match what I'm on currently. It's all so scary and such a big jump to go from employed, to self employed

The good thing with business plans is that they help you work out things like how much each treatment would cost to do (and hence profit margins), overheads (eg you'll need public liability insurance) and therefore how many treatments you need to do per day to survive.

If you are under 30 the Prince's Trust course does come highly recommended - they're very good at breaking things down into simple steps and helping you to get your head around everything from marketing to tax to legal structures

DodgyGenes · 30/07/2019 08:43

PS for me, I did a lot of work on the business plan etc before I came up with a name - until you get to the point of promoting your business to the general public, you don't need a name.

Biscusting · 30/07/2019 08:45

Nailey lashy sparkle face?

I think you’ve had some great suggestions above. Best of luck OP.
