House got burgled :( possibly not insured

Hi has anyone got any experience of this?
Our house got burgled while we were out last night. They smashed in the back door and took jewellery and stuff.
Trouble is we hadn't set the alarm because our friend was staying with us and he had brought his dog. We thought the dog would set the alarm off with its movements?? So didn't bother setting it. Fuck fuck fuck. Luckily the dog is ok, found hiding in the garden when we got back
Police have been but there's not much they're going to be able to do.
Is my insurance invalid?? OMG
I'm shaking Sad scumbags

I'm so sorry that's happened to you Flowers

With the insurance, I think that if you paid a certain rate due to having an alarm and it then wasn't set, then they may use that to avoid paying out. But I can't be sure. All you can do is make a claim and see what happens I think.

If you have internal sensors then it sounds reasonable because the dog would set it off.

Glad to hear dog is OK! Only your insurers can tell you if you're covered or not (I would assume I was).

FYI should you ever get your alarm sensors replaced, you can get ones that aren't triggered by pets.

Sorry this happened to you.

For future reference if the dog is confined to one room you can set the alarm and then omit that room.

Refer to your instruction manual, if you don't have one you can probably find it online. You perform a walkthrough which requires two people as you enter a room a light on the panel will tell you what zone that room is. Or hopefully this is already handwritten onto your instruction manual.

We had a faulty sensor and omitted that zone for night time setting.

First of all I am so sorry it happened to us, it is just awful I felt sick about it.

I do not know about the insurance thing we did not declare the alarm on our policy because of small children and animals.

I'm gutted. Feel so anxious about it

They rifled through my fucking underwear drawer Angry

How horrible for you.

It's a bit of a coincidence it happened when the alarm was off, who knew your friend was staying?

washyourface · 29/07/2019 12:51

The police know who it was, they identified him from cctv. He's been wanted for a while and had probably been watching the house Angry
