What to assign to a regular cleaner?

Hi all,

I’m pregnant with a toddler and work in the house has piled. This is because I was sleep training my toddler and that sucked every last bit of energy out of me in the evenings and so couldn’t keep up with my routine,

However the type of work that’s piled up is just laundry, folding, organising cabinets and wardrobes... and deep cleaning things..

I’m lagged behind on my meal prep and so on. So that consumes my day becsuee I need to cook daily now.

DH decided to hire a professional from a cleaning company but I’m feeling most of the tasks are only things can be done by me and him. It’s also my first time hiring a cleaner and I’m under the impression they don’t do deep cleaning jobs but I’m not sure what to assign her otherwise! She is here for 3 hours!!

  • I have a carpet stain, could she do that?
  • windows are a bit dirty but they’re not a priority, but can I give her that?
  • she can clean the oven as specified
  • I need bleaching the bath tub?
  • I want to remove the scale from the shower screen.. is that too much?
  • we have a robot to do the mopping. But I can give her that if I run out of ideas. Prefer not
  • do they do any type of tidying ? I have small toys behind the bed which I can’t reach because I’m pregnant can I ask her to remove them ?
  • would she do any type of cleaning inside my kitchen cabinets?
  • she wouldn’t do any tidying of my kitchen cabinets right ?

I have a daily routine of wiping surfaces and mopping and hoovering and dishes and (was meant to be also laundry). I don’t want to Assign the tasks that are simple for me because I’m actually on top of those.

Not windows...maybe the interior but many would class that as part of a "Deep Clean" and they charge more for those. Same with oven...usually part of a deep clean.

It sounds like you need to book a deep clean to begin with..to catch up on those trickier or more time consuming jobs including oven, windows (inside only) descaling the shower screen and the inside of the cupboards.

Most cleaners do dusting, hoovering, cleaning the loo, bath and shower in addition to wiping surfaces and so on.

What about cleaning the fridge? And mirrors ?

They will generally clean what you will request. In your situation I would ask for them to clean things like windows and skirtings, things that you just never get round to but are instantly noticeable if dirty.

They won't generally clean what you request. Some will only do things like windows, cookers and inside cupboards (and fridges) as part of a deep clean.

Many will only do general cleaning...as I said, of loo, bath, shower, kitchen worktops, hoovering and mopping. They will discuss what you want doing first....and tell you how long it will take.

HennyPennyHorror · 29/07/2019 13:03

Mirrors would come under general cleaning so yes. But as I said OP, it sounds like you need to book a deep clean to begin with.

Then progress to normal cleaning once a week.

I agree, get a deep clean to begin with. Then the cleaner will be able to give you an idea of how long a weekly job would take if you discuss what jobs you think need doing.

PepsiLola · 29/07/2019 13:34

Deep cleans around where I live are about £100-£150, completely worth it for the first clean

I think you're looking at this wrong, leave the hoovering the mopping and stuff like dustin cleaning bathrooms that you've been doing and keeping on top of for the cleaner to do. This frees up your time to do the stuff they won't generally do like putting your laundry away. Often they will iron and our cleaner used to change the beds as I hated that job. Then each week I would assign an extra job so wiping skirting one week windows the next, cupboard doors the following iyswim.

CMOTDibbler · 29/07/2019 13:42

My cleaner would do all of those things. In fact she loves a good tidy out and clean of the kitchen cupboards or attacking the laundry and organising drawers.

Just ask - no one will be offended if you ask if they will do these things
