So tonight we had friends and their dc over for dinner. I made burgers and my friends dc said they wanted onions on theirs. My friend put a load of onions on and the dc played for a bit before eating the burger. So they ate a bite and said "yuck, don't want onions". So my friend scraped the onions off and gave it back to dc and he started to eat it. Their other dc got up up to use the toilet and accidentally let our dog in the kitchen. The dog ran over to their other dc and he pulled a bit off the burger and bun off and fed it to my dog. I'm worried now about onion ingestion as I know it can be fatal. I know the onions had been taken off but they sat in the burger and bun for a bit before they were removed so the juice possibly could have 'leaked'. For future reference our dog is a small breed adult and seems fine but I am a bit worried. Do you think it could hurt him?

I wouldn't worry too much. Mine have had cooked onion on occasion and been fine.

It only takes 100 grams ofonion(about the size of a mediumonion) per 20 kilograms of adog'sweight to cause toxic effects, which means that a 45-pounddogwould only have to eat one medium-to-large-sizeonionto experience dangerous toxicity levels

From Dr Google...I don't think you need to worry

I would call the vet. It's free to talk on the phone. They can work out exactly how much onion is toxic to your dog. It's not worth the risk. I've seen several dogs suffer from toxic ingestion where the owners have followed Dr Google and got it wrong.
