Painless migraine?!

Is it a thing?

I've had migraines since my mid twenties, although far less frequently now than in previous years. I put it down to reducing my caffeine consumption and leaving a horribly stressful job.

They always start with me being a bit short tempered, starving hungry for a few hours and then I get a twitch in my right eye, which swells up usually. My scalp becomes really sensitive, so much that even the wind blowing in my hair is painful. I smell things that aren't there sometimes and get a faint ringing in my ear. Neck ache starts and then the full blown migraine hits and I'm pretty much bed bound for the rest of the day. The next day I feel like I'm hungover, totally exhausted and generally rough feeling.

So yesterday, I was narky and starving, got the sensitive scalp just before bed and I've spent most of today with a neckache jand twitchy eye just waiting for the migraine to start. I had a snooze this afternoon, but no headache at all, and now I feel really rough. I'm currently necking a Purdey's as it seems to be the only thing that helps the day after, and grateful that I'm not bed bound. But I'm sort of still waiting for it to hit.

Has anyone ever had a painless migraine before? Is there such a thing? I've had a quick Google but couldn't really find anything of interest!

Aura without migraine I think it’s called. I’ve had it and wait for it to hit but it doesn’t. Hopefully u miss it.

Aura without migraine! Yep. It's the worst, you're on edge waiting for the migraine to hit. I just had aura for 3 days but no migraine! Thankfully it's gone now and I never did get the migraine just the numb hands, blurry eye, loss of appetite, exhaustion and nausea.

I used to get migraines that were the standard ones, i.e. aura followed by a headache for about a decade. Things then changed in my mid twenties to aura only, sometimes followed by just a very mild headache.

I hate the aura but am glad I no longer get the awful headache, means I also no longer take triptans as they don't touch the aura anyway. Used to get side effects from triptans so that's a relief.
