Money going missing

Over the last couple of months we have noticed small sums of money going missing from around the house. First it was £5 which ds1 left on the table and today there is £20 gone from his money box.

There are 4 of us in the house, me, ds1 and 2 and dh. Everybody says that they haven't got the money and there is nobody that appears to be lying. However logic tells me that it must be ds2 purely because dh has been away this weekend. Nobody else has been in the house.

If anybody has any good tips for how to challenge ds2 without closing down the lines of explanation I'd really appreciate hearing them.

@GettickledGETTICKLEDbyspiders that's what I'm wondering but he honestly seems happy and untroubled by anything. If he's being bullied he's a magnificent actor.

I know that I seem to be shutting everyone's ideas down and I'm sorry if it seems that way but really the situation and his attitude just doesn't add up.

I think I might wait until he's out tomorrow and turn his room upside down to see if he's got money stashed in a weird place.

Am really appreciating the input though.

Wouldn't normally suggest this, but can you check his phone and see if there's anything in there? Not to use as proof against him though.
There might be a bigger issue that needs tackling and the missing money is just a symptom.

@YourSarcasmIsDripping
Hmmm yes that's a good idea. I'll do that. Might be something on there that points me in the right direction. Thanks.

Yes to checking his phone. It could be online games he’s paying for - maybe he’s spent too much.

Set a cash trap..☺️

Hmm... I would also be inclined to check his phone.

Unless you/your family are on the bones of your arse, it's not the money though, is it? It's the lying and the deceit.

I would have a conversation with him along the lines that *Sarcasm^ suggested, but I would also add in that as his mum, you are his no 1 supporter, and if he was ever in trouble, you'll be there to fight for him. BUT you can't do that unless you know he'll always tell you the truth...
