Hi everyone,
I'm currently making a project for my design technology GCSE and I would love if you could give me some feedback.

  1. If you were to buy a product for your child which helps them be more sustainable, where would you use it?
  1. Would you make the product colourful?
  1. Do you think it is important for children to have an awareness of the environment?
  1. How big would you make this product?
  1. What kind of features would the product have?
  1. What is the most important thing for this product in your opinion?

Thank you so much!
Annika

The age range of children is vast so you would have to take that into consideration.

I’m going to base my answers on a 5/6 year old child.

  1. If you were to buy a product for your child which helps them be more sustainable, where would you use it? - A bin in their playroom.
  1. Would you make the product colourful? Yes. Possibly in the shape of an animal or with pictures of animals on it.
  1. Do you think it is important for children to have an awareness of the environment? Yes
  1. How big would you make this product? A bin with the capacity of 30 lites divided into 3 compartments
  1. What kind of features would the product have? Three compartments got paper/card, plastic and general waste
  1. What is the most important thing for this product in your opinion? Teaches child to be aware of different materials and that some may be recycled

Most people trying to reduce their environmental impact do it by striving to buy less. It would have to be something pretty special to be worth buying!

Maybe something that helps with reusing & recycling? I've seen cutters to turn plastic bottles into narrow strips that can be used as string. Perhaps a child-safe version of this with instructions or further gadgets for turning the strips into items - braided cords, mats, weaving into bags.

Natural wood would look good & be in keeping with the environmental goal, and must be from a sustainable source. Think about the packaging too!

I would make the product out of recycled or repurposed or biodegradable materials. Creating a new item to eventually add to landfill isn't that eco-friendly.
