My DS, almost 8, was transfixed in a waiting room by a pop-up book which was clearly from the 70s. Really complex and lovely 3D cut-outs with moving parts. It got me thinking that I had some really amazing pop-ups as a child, but I never seem to see them any more. Pull tabs or lift-flaps, yes, but not the glorious pop-ups.
Do you have any you can recommend for a child of this age?

Look up books by Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhardt (check spelling) but my DCs have loved their books. As parents, we’ve also really enjoyed looking through them at all the detail.

Rain, they’re the type of books my DCs have read. They’re amazing but educational too.

My DSD has one called The Little Prince and it is absolutely beautiful and full of amazing moving bits, flaps and pop up bits.

We have a book called Pop up London by Jennie Maizels which my children all liked at that age, and was also enjoyed by adults when I used to teach English as a foreign language.

The Harry Potter pop up is fantastic and opens up to make hogwarts.

Alice in wonderland, there’s a stunning pop up book of the entire story, it is utterly gorgeous.

Robert Sabuda's pop up Alice in Wonderland might actually be exactly what you're looking for, although it's quite fragile.

Stompythedinosaur · 28/07/2019 13:27

Anything by Robert Salbuda. I particularly like Encyclopedia Prehistorica.

The Paddington in London pop up book is really lovely - quite pricey, but I rate it.

Ooh wonderful, thanks so much for the ideas. I shall enjoy going to check them out

Wordery currently has the wonderful wizard of Oz for £11.24. It is also absolutely stunning.

I may end up buying all of the Robert Sabuda books, they’re all utterly mesmerising.

Minalima do beautiful versions of classic children’s stories with pop ups and gorgeous illustrations- they’ve become my go-to christening present.
