Ryanair baggage allowance

I wonder if anyone can help with something that should be really straightforward.

We are flying as a family and have 4 x 10kg bags to put in the cabin and 2 x 20kg bags for the hold.

We are looking at the dimensions this morning and there is such conflicting advice. We should be able to find the dimensions on the internet, but even Ryanair's own website is conflicting. It seems they changed the dimensions last November but have not updated all of their own info on their website.

Has anyone flown with them very recently and can help? It looks like we'll all be taking a change of clothes and little else!

No one on here will know more than the actual website will tell you. I'm not sure what is conflicting on it, it's very clear?

@MrsMop7 that would have been exactly what I thought until I looked into it.

Says luggage should be 40 x 20 x 25 but shows a picture with dimensions 55 x 20 x 40 right next to it.

Yes. You get 2 bags onboard. The dimensions refer to both of them.

I also find it very clear. Go back through all your email correspondence with them and you will find it, it might be clicky links, I can’t remember, but they do give you the info.
I’m not sure they stipulate dimensions for the 20kg hold luggage, as unless you are trying to check in a packaged large sheet of something like safety glass, it’s unlikely to cause them problems as it is restricted to 20kg weight.
Their main concern is with the dimensions of cabin bags, and they bombard you with that.

MrsMop7 · 28/07/2019 10:28

Either that or you are looking at the wrong section on the website.

Had a quick look at the website. Seems as though different sizes for the 10kilo bag you take into the cabin and the 10k bag you can check in to the hold...which again is different from the usual 20k hold baggage. Very confusing!

My son just flew Ryanair. The cabin carry on is 40x20x25 which is tiny. You can take two of these only if you pay for priority boarding (which he did). If you go on amazon and search for ‘Ryanair carry on’ there’s a selection of bags with the right dimensions. He got one that was back pack style so he could use it walking around as well. Be careful not to overpack as this will make them too big. They absolutely will check! He did manage to pack all he needed in the two bags.

The rules changed in November so that you can now only take one small bag onboard as standard 40x20x25. You can pay for Priority Boarding which also gives you a 10kg bag to take in the cabin (55x40x20). Alternatively you can pay for a 10kg bag to go in the hold (also 55x40x20) or a 20kg bag to go in the hold (119x119x81).

I booked a flight prior to Nov 18 and so they gave us a 10kg hold bag per passenger for free but I got in touch as was also completely confused!

Katinthedoghouse · 28/07/2019 10:39

I flew last week with them and I agree it’s very confusing.

20 kg cases will go into the hold

If you have paid extra you will be able to take your 10 kilo case on board plus a small handbag

If you selected the family option ( which might be automatic - I didn’t want to select this as I wanted to fly as cheaply as possible but ended up with it - and couldn’t get rid of it ) you have to put your 10kg case in the hold too - or risk it being taken off you at the gate and paying £50

Personal bag size are really mean and I stressed about this a lot as we only had one rucksack that fit the 20 Cm measurement. Lots of trunky cases were on board.

I usually travel with a longchamp le pliage handbag and even that exceeded the maximum measurement, so I folded it up and put it inside a reusable cotton bag amongst my other stuff and opened it out again in the plane Grin

In the end nobody checked handbag sizes Confused and there was much more space in the overhead lockers.

Hope this helps and enjoy your holiday !

Your booking will tell you exactly what you're allowed, including dimensions. I've always had reminders that state it too.

If you've booked priority, then it's one small bag plus one larger bag, both in the cabin. Then you've got your suitcase in the hold as well. That's a lot of luggage!

Thank you.

I hope someone can/has advise(d) you and hope you don't have to fly with them again.

Apart from climate change considerations, if you love horses you are supporting the cruel Grand National by flying with them (Mr O'Leary's horses have won the race at least twice recently).
