Help am terrified, mid cycle bleeding.

peoplepleaser1 · 27/07/2019 10:47

I have had some bleeding today and yesterday. It's brown more then red. Am around middle of my cycle, but it's hard to be precise as my period takes ages to get going (spotting for days before it starts) so hard to pinpoint day one.

I'm almost 44. Smears up to date. Have copper non hormonal coil. Periods regular but lots of spotting before they get going.

I'm terrified. I will go to GP on Monday but in meantime if anyone could give any words of wisdom or comfort I'd be so grateful. I am usually more stoic than this but have had a tough few months and this seems to have tipped me over into terrified.

I get this, so far it’s been a cervical polyp, uterine polyp and then a chocolate cyst. All dealt with swiftly.

ittakes2 · 27/07/2019 21:02

Mid-cycle bleeding is common. Have had this on and off for years. It can happen around the time you ovulate as your hormones change. Go to the doctor if you are worried but really its common so don't panic.

FrancesFryer · 27/07/2019 21:06

I'm at the stage where I'm missing periods, close periods, ovulation pain worst than before.
I had investigations and they found and removed a polyp. But nothing else wrong except my age

Yes, are you ovulating around now? Do you get ovulation pain?

I frequently get a little blood in various forms at this time - sometimes a darker type, sometimes very pink.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/07/2019 21:10

There's really no need to be terrified. At all. Mid-cycle bleeding is extremely common, especially if you are entering peri-menopause, which is very, very likely at your age.

MadamBatty · 27/07/2019 21:10

At 44 it’s peri menopause. Things start to change. I would suggest that you have 99.9% chance of being absolutely fine.

The problem with hormone tests in Peri menopause is that they’re very unreliable. One day can give a very different result to the next,

Go to doc anyway to put your mind at resr

Aquamarine1029 · 27/07/2019 21:19

This article has a lot of good information about peri-menopause.

YouWhoNeverArrived · 27/07/2019 21:44

@NoTheresa Not sure if you're being sarcastic - I don't want to go into detail about the kind of diagnostic tests a GP might offer, as the GP who sees OP may not need to do all of them depending on the history and examination findings, and I don't want OP to be worried if her doctor doesn't arrange all the tests I mention. I am trying to be helpful. The main point is that smear tests are only useful in asymptomatic populations.

Sorority · 27/07/2019 21:55

Op
I've had this for the last few years. I'm 45 now. It's not bleeding as such more pinky brown smudges, especially when I wipe (sorry tmi.) Also severe ovulation pain which I never got when I was in my 30s.

Always mid cycle although very rarely has happened at other times. GP has said its hormonal / peri as I have other symptoms eg vag dryness, hot flushes etc.
I've been on yearly smears, my last 3 showed hpv positive but no abnormal cells detected. Currently waiting for routine colposcopy. Trying not to worry about it!

Given your age I would surmise that it's peri but obvs check with your GP.

CatteStreet · 27/07/2019 22:10

I had a brownish midcycle bleed a couple of years ago at 40, just the one. To gynae, all fine and have had further clear smears since (you get them annually where I am). I had suspected an ovulation bleed and that was probably what it was.

The odds are overwhelming that this will not be sinister, and if it is, it is again very likely to have been caught early. Flowers

I had this. GP thought coil may be to blame. Had it out and it stopped. It’s come back again but very regular and Doc unconcerned as she said likely hormonal if regular. Try to read all these positive outcomes and just go get checked.

Update.

Thank you all for your helpful posts.

GP was really helpful.

She took a look and some swabs. She said all looked fine.

She's referred me for an ultrasound to check on the cyst I had previously, and to look for any other issues. I may have to wait 6 weeks which will be tough, wondering about going privately?

She said she needs to rule out 'a few things' but sometimes no cause is found.

I asked her wether it could be related to the perimenopause (not sure if I'm there yet but I think it's hard to be sure). She said that was low on her list of possible causes- I found this surprising considering the amount of posters here who have had the same and put it down to perimenopause.....

Thank you for all the mumsnet support, I have to admit I'm still really worried and it's on my mind a lot.

I used to get this a lot, I'm now out the other side thank goodness. In my 30's I had a couple of polyps which were the cause. I had it bad as part of perimenopause. It was investigated and at the scan a polyp was seen. By the time I got to the hysteroscopy bit, they couldn't find the polyp! So it was explained away as "just one of those things". There are things you can take to try and stem the heavy bleeding. I ended up on HRT (I'd not been a fan of hormonal contraception which didn't agree with me) but they can prescribe micronised progesterone for HRT which my body is ok with.

Honestly I'd try not to worry about it being anything sinister.

Hello Gertie75, or anyone who can see this as I appreciate its an old post.
I’m 46 and have been having very light mid cycle spotting since last June, so nearly a year now and about every 3rd month. I saw a gyny consultant when it first happened who said very normal and my ultrasound was normal. A year on and I’ve had 3 more mid cycle episodes, spoken to him again and he said he’ll organise another scan but he doesn’t consider it’s anything to worry about. Coronavirus is going to delay the scan but I’m petrified.
Can I ask what happened for any of you ladies experiencing mid cycle spotting?

MooMinCow · 04/06/2020 18:54

I had this for over a year. Scans all clear. Gynaecologist suggested removing my 7/8 yr old copper coil and the mid cycle bleeding stopped within a month! Periods are now much lighter and over within 3 days.

EnlightenedOwl · 04/06/2020 18:57

I had this. Endometrial polyps harmless
