Eyebrow Microblading Were My Expectations Too High?

I had my brows microbladed last July because after years of plucking them, they just stopped growing. At first they looked great, I could see each individual 'hair' drawn on perfectly and they looked natural. You have to follow the aftercare for the following week with the special wipes until they scab and flake off. After about 6 weeks you go back again for a top up, so the microblader can fill in any bits she may have missed and also to go over the exisiting hairs. Same aftercare follows and then you're supposed to have natural looking brows without the need to draw them on. I don't know if I just expected too much from it all (cost was £250 by the way) but I still have to pencil them in when I put make up on, and today I was looking at them in my 15x mirror and I cannot see any individual hairs at all. It looks more like just a smudged blur, similar to as if I'd pencilled them in then wiped it off slightly.

I'm wondering if perhaps I have the type of skin that doesn't respond as well as someone else's might do.

I did contact the lady who did them and she had me go back so she could check....she didn't think they were as bad as I do, and actually she gave me a further top up for free, however despite that I'm still wondering if my expectations were too high.
Has anyone else had it done and did it work for you?

Me too. Had them done and topped up 4 times...followed aftercare to a tee. At one point didnt even wash my hair in case I got them wet!!!! Just didnt take...was told skin in too greasy. Told Ombre might be better but I dont want blocky brows

I tend to have skin that's too dry, so oily isn't an issue for me. I just wish they'd stayed how they were upon first getting them done, they looked sooo good and I was thrilled. I have no idea what Ombre brows are, but if the need for actual eyebrow hair is vital to have that done, then it's no use to me as mine are at best sparse to non existent!

Hi yes iv had mine done and topped up 4 times over 5 years. They've always looked good with individual hairs.
I'm not an expert but did you see any of the practitioners work before you decided to have it done?

Hello ladies I’m a microblading artist

Elizabeth firstly well done on taking the plunge.

What the artist should have done was shading. Even though we’d all love to have them looking as natural the truth is we are use to using pencils and shadows which make them appear thicker and darker. We get use to this look.
Also you would have to have top ups more or less every 6-9 months.
I have some very particular clients who do come back to me often to get them looking fresher.

Also if you have black or oily skin it’s does appear to look smudged. Was you not given home care advice explaining all this?

Every client I book in for a consultation is made aware of the results. Many of my clients are older ladies who are losing the thickness of the brows or have none at all.
I do have younger clients but they go for the HD brow look.

Hope this helps.

Mrsjackrussell, yes my cousin (who is verrrrry picky) had hers done and hers are great. I'm due for another top up shortly at which I'll once more mention that the hairs do not stay as individual as they appear upon first getting them done. I just think that maybe my expectations were that I'd never have to pencil them in when I'm doing my make up.

Ravina, yes the lady gave me the full explanation and I followed the home care to a tee. Perhaps I will ask for the shading when I next have the top up.
I tend to have dry rather than oily skin and I'm fair skinned too.

I'm almost 57 and thought maybe the older the skin, the tougher it is and therefore less able to take the ink?

I had ombre brows done in January. I have bigger pores so microblading wasnt an option for me. I love them, I still use powder as I like them darker and I'm also like a 5 year old applying make up so I pretty much erase them with foundation when doing my make up in the morning anyway 😂 but they dont look blocky. I overplucked them when it was all the craze in the 2000s to have really thin eyebrows and they never grew back properly particularly towards the middle and I was very self conscious without makeup because of that so got them done so I'd feel happier and not have to worry in situations like lying by the pool on holiday or worrying that when exercising I'd sweated half an eyebrow off ha.
