Hi Mumsnet, am 31 weeks pregnant and at night time the soles of my feet are roasting hot. Is this normal please? Should I be alarmed? Have resorted to soaking socks in cold water! Thanks!!

I am not pregnant but get this all the time in the hot weather.

The rest of the year my feet are freezing..

Poppiesway1 · 26/07/2019 22:55

Not pregnant but boiling feet. I’ve gone to bed with a cold water bottle for my feet!!

LookImAHooman · 26/07/2019 22:55

Snap, Dr. It’s fucking horrendous. Frozen gel pack wrapped in a thin towel is the best relief I’ve found.

I had this and it was HELL. I used to sleep with my feet out the window.

Just googled it and they don't say much except the obvious : hormones, weight.

The one thing you MUST NOT DO is put your feet in cold water before you go to bed. OMG don't do that!

Likethebattle · 26/07/2019 23:52

Mention this to your doctor, foot issues can indicate diabetes and this was one of my mothers symptoms.

LittleAndOften · 26/07/2019 23:56

I have this all the time. At night I keep a tub of cream by the bed and keep slathering it on my feet - it seems to help. I've also been putting freezer packs in zip lock bags and putting one under each foot when I'm sitting down.

I've heard peppermint foot cream works well but I've yet to try it.

Thanks all, this foot phenomenon better go away soon.

I first had hot soles of feet 2 days after Dd1 was born, it was bizarre. She is now 23 but I have been diagnosed with RA, seemingly its a symptom. I HATE it when it happens, its the most bizarre feeling. It happens when I have a "flare up". Along with a sore eyeball that is also a symptom. Its not just joint pain.
Get an anti CCP antibody test. My RA test is still negative but my anti CCP and physical checks say I have it, as does the weird eye thing that hurts like buggery

aurynne · 27/07/2019 05:26

Are they itchy too or only hot? If itchy, ask your midwife for a blood test for obstetric cholestasis.

EmeraldIsle81 · 27/07/2019 14:22

Thank you, not itchy just roasting hot soles of feet. Spent most of last night paddling about the kitchen barefoot as it is cold hardwood floor.

I had this so badly (not when pregnant). I am a cold person , when others are wearing a T-shirt I wear three jumpers a vest and a coat. My feet are freezing cold all day until about half an hour before I go to bed when they go bright red and so hot it’s totally unbearable. I tried everything, ice packs, fans, elevating, soaking etc, nothing worked.
Then, I cracked it. I noticed a pattern, when I worked late or went out in the evening there was no problem. When I had been sat on the sofa for more than 30mins flames.
It turned out the the position I sat in on the sofa in the evening. I would sit with my feet tucked up alongside me and this was impinging a nerve in my lower back that was causing the burning. I can now often prevent it by not sitting for longer than 30 mins without getting up moving around and doing some specific stretches. If this isn’t releasing it I see my osteopath who can usually fix it with a couple of adjustments. I also keep a regular appointment with her every 6 weeks. I’d image that in op’s case the baby and changing shape and alignment have caused nerves to become impinged.

Someone upthread said not to put your feet in cold water before going to bed - why is that? I did exactly that last night and now I'm worried Confused

EmeraldIsle81 · 27/07/2019 22:19

Oh thank you - @AtleastitsnotMonday I am seeing my consultant on Monday - funnily enough about a back problem - will def tell them about the burny feet!

OP posts:
AtleastitsnotMonday · 27/07/2019 23:12

I bet you anything that’s it. The weather/temp was irrelevant even in the depths of winter if I sat in the wrong position flaming feet would follow. To be fair it is possible that your consultant won’t have have heard of it, it took a gap, physio, podiatrist and osteopath to figure mine out, but got there in the end!

springydaff · 27/07/2019 23:26

That was me Protects -

because I did it when I was pg and had unbearably hot feet and OMFG my feet burned like hell for hours.

(Sorry about the language but it's appropriate)
