Hayfever/Watery eyes

Posting here for traffic..

I've never had hayfever before but have been suffering for the first time ever this year, mainly with itchy and watery eyes. (At least I think its hayfever anyway)

I've been taking antihistamines daily, which helped initially but they're watering again now. Not as badly, but still enough so that my make up is affected, they feel sore and tired and it's getting me down.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can self treat while I wait for a GP appt pls?

Opticrom eye drops

I find a steroid nasal spray more effective than eyedrops, but using both wouldn't do any harm.

If I use eye drops will my make up run though? Never used them before for this reason!

Agree on the Nose spray, works a treat, couple of sprays in the morning and that's it.

But aren't your watery eyes making your makeup run anyway...
(Use drops before you put your makeup on and after you take it off)

Yes but I'm hoping there will be a solution that stops the eye watering. I don't want to give up on make up!

Ok, will check out the nasal spray...

Also look up blepharitis. Could be that instead if you aren't a hayfever sufferer. An optician could confirm

I was recently told by a GP that cetirizine is the best antihistamine you can take - no interactions with any other medication and less severe side-effects than the others. Also, even though the packet says only take once a day, you can actually take it up to 4 times a day - start by going up to twice a day, then if no improvement go up to 3 time, then 4 times if necessary. She also recommended a nasal spray. I must stress that I am not a medical professional - this is just what I was told by a GP.
