Has anyone ever suggested a menstrual cup to their dd from the start?

I have just been reading the thread about scented/unscented pads. I have used a menstrual cup for about ten years now and love them. I hated pads and tampons and it was a revelation to start using a cup. And scented pads sound even worse.

So, DD is ten, almost 11, and I have had a starter pack of pads/tampons on stand by for a while. I wondered whether anyone has ever included a menstrual cup as an option along with the usual stuff? I think they’re brilliant and I think I would have preferred them from the start. The ick factor seems to put off a lot of grown women and I can’t work out whether it would be worse for preteens/teenagers, or whether if they were just shown from the start maybe the ick factor wouldn’t develop?

Less leaks and not having to deal with your period at all during the school day

I guess it depends how heavy your periods are, but this is definitely the big plus point for me. I very rarely have to deal with my period during the working day, I can just forget about it until I’m home.

But also, with the concerns about coming out to the sink in school toilets, I’m pretty sure emptying it into the toilet, and straight back in or with a quick wipe with a tissue would be ok in those circumstances?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think it’s time to go beyond the small starter pack and get the full arsenal in 😄

Any brand suggestions for reusable pads?

I may have dreamt this, but isn't there a type of moon cup that you leave up there and squeeze a valve to empty it into the toilet, thus no need to remove, wash and reinsert?

my 11 year old prefers washable pads (hiccups and juice, and TCS pads are her favourite) I really doubt that most 10/11 year olds would be able to manage a mooncup

Tulip cup do a menstrual cup with a valve that you can release to empty in situ.

Their normal cup is really good too, my teen has one and copes really well with it

Precious Stars do a starter budget range.

I would have used one from the start if they had been around. I have always hated pads and used tampons from my first period. I guess you could discuss all of the options with her
