Car accident

aquamarine1 · 25/07/2019 19:07

My husband has just bumped the back of a car in heavy traffic. No damage to our car but a dent in their boot.
I feel absolutely sick. This is the third claim in less than a year - the other two were non-fault. Our insurance is already up to £8hundred for the year - god knows what this will put it up to. I'm trying not to be angry (sin was in his eyes) but honestly, I could cry.

Gin It’s a bastard, but that is what your insurance is for.
aquamarine1 · 25/07/2019 20:07

Thanks, you're right. I just can't shake the sick feeling and I've been anxious lately so this is about to push me over the edge!

It's awful luck but might not be as bad as you fear on the insurance. And it will come down again eventually. Chin up.Thanks

BlondeBumshelll · 25/07/2019 21:05

I know it's shit having your insurance go up but nobody got hurt and that's the main thing.

Arnoldthecat · 25/07/2019 21:20

Just tell your husband to say he was in standing traffic and the other car rolled back into him..? Try and cut a deal to pay the person direct and not inform insurance? all a bit wobbly,,,, what can you do,its happened,no amount of anxiety will fix it.

YouWhoNeverArrived · 25/07/2019 21:23

@arnoldthecat What you're suggesting - lying about the accident - sounds suspiciously like fraud...

aquamarine1 · 25/07/2019 21:35

Thanks for the kind words. We've called insurance so hopefully it's all in hand. 12 years with no accidents and now this, just a bit gutted.

OP posts:
Papergirl1968 · 25/07/2019 21:36

And that’s what you’d do, is it, Arnold?
Lie, commit fraud, and let the innocent party take the hit. You disgust me.
Sorry to hear this, Op. Might be worth checking how much it is to get the work done without going through insurance though? Depends on how much your excess is.

Arnoldthecat · 25/07/2019 21:46

Well it depends on circs i suppose. I cant tell op what to do. Sometimes you do the right thing, sometimes its a case of rules is for fools. Dont care whos disgusted TBH.

Blubluboo · 25/07/2019 21:50

Don't do what Arnold suggested LOL.
Try not to worry OP, I'm sure he didn't do it on purpose and you're all safe which is the main thing. Well done for not getting angry, this could easily be the sort of thing couples argue about!

Arnoldthecat · 25/07/2019 21:53

Well said Blubluboo..everyone is afe, cars can be mended.

Nearlyadoctor · 25/07/2019 22:08

If you’ve had 12 years with no accidents do you not protect your NCD, mine allows 2 accidents and then after the 3rd drops the NCD by one year. It may be worth thinking about paying slightly more in future to protect it when he regains some - no time a lot of help now I know but something to think about another time.

aquamarine1 · 25/07/2019 22:21

We have protected NCB but price still went up by a lot after the two non-fault accidents.

ivykaty44 · 25/07/2019 22:27

Arnold is the reason to have a camera on board, many road users do use cameras after being caught out. Rest assured Arnold that the lies look stupid on paper when the camera is viewed from the other party

Tartyflette · 25/07/2019 22:33

You have my sympathy. There is nothing like a car accident, however minor, to seriously put a crimp in your day (as well as the vehicle).
If you're like me you even obsess about it a bit. But you'll feel better tomorrow, or soon after, trust me.
Minor fender benders, scrapes and dinges are just part of modern life, and remember the old pilot's saying -- any crash you can walk away from is a good one.

Kez200 · 25/07/2019 22:43

Please be grateful no one was hurt.

aquamarine1 · 25/07/2019 22:48

@Tartyflette I really am obsessing about it, feeling shit but hopefully tomorrow will be better like you say. It could have been much worse after all.

Take heart - our insurance was £1300 this year (£400 last year). Accident two years ago, coupled with needing a bigger car (a bus basically) to transport our expanding family.

Coupled with £100 to cancel last years insurance (daylight bloody robbery) it’s left a bad taste.

What’s done is done, at least no one was hurt, and that’s the main thing.
