Somewhere nice to eat in London (walking distance of St Pauls) on Sunday evening

Looking for recommendations. Just me and my 13 yo (fussy eater). Italian food, or roast or gastropub sort of food. Not nationwide chain place (our only options at home). Not somewhere you have to dress up for, and no really loud music.

This is the First Dates restaurant - it is near St.Paul's. I haven't been there but it looks nice:

You could cross over the river and go to the swan at the globe? Nice food pub. Or maybe the restaurant Northbank just by St Paul's but no idea what it's like on a Sunday (may be dead)

Me and the DH went here recently rather odd to get into, you go into the shopping centre to access the very swooshy lift. It was very quiet when we went there. You can sit by the windows which overlook St Paul's, then beyond the very pretty decorated terrace, there's a further terrace overlooking London, cracking views. We had a massive Caesar salad and beer each, it's not posh but looks nice.

The Madison has amazing views of St Pauls:

Hawksmoor is always good for roasts/steak/burgers. It's a bit more relaxed/less "grown up" than the Madison but still special. The Guildhall branch isn't too far: thehawksmoor.com/locations/guildhall/

Or you could cross over the bridge and go to one of the many places on the river. Gabriel's Wharf has a couple of Italian/pizza places.

I second The Swan by the Globe... great food!

There’s not much open on Sunday nights near St Paul’s, certainly not the Hawksmoor, Northbank or Paternoster Chop House.

I’d walk to Bank and have dinner at The Ned. Cecconi’s (Italian) is open til 11pm. Cheaper would be The Paternoster pub. Swan at The Globe is also lovely as someone else mentioned.

Oo while you’re there, maybe pop into look at the tiles at Postman’s Park just next to the Cathedral, Watts is a bit of hero of mine

Actually, one absolutely lovely pub that does amazing roasts & will be open is The Jugged Hare in Barbican, a 10-15 minute walk.

I think a lot of independent places will be closed but I'd walk up towards Farringdon. There are a lot of lovely smaller places up there and you can probably just wander in.

My DD at that age loved the Real Greek. Admittedly a chain but not a national one. Slightly more adventurous than Italian but not challenging food! There is one within about 100 metres of the globe (heading to London Bridge not Blackfriars).

These are brilliant - thank you!

Enoteca da Luca in watling street is very close

Lindy2 · 25/07/2019 15:55

If you walk over the Millennium Bridge there is a pub on the South Bank called the Founders Arms.
They do a lovely range of food all day and the fish and chips is particularly amazing.

butterry · 25/07/2019 15:59

I'm not sure what is open around that area on a Sunday! I wouldn't go to Enoteca da Luca though, it got a 1 for food hygiene

viques · 25/07/2019 15:59

Cote is a chain, though a decent one, and French, not Italian, but literally across the road from St Pauls and reliable. Not sure it's open on Sunday evening though.

Not a very helpful post really, sorry!!!
