I know I'm late to the party!Smilehowever dd9 wants one dh insists in throwing them out at the end of the summer when we aren't looking but won't spend £90 on a better quality one- any one got any recommendations for half decent paddling pool?

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for paddling pool recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best paddling pool page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful.

I bought a Bestway 103 inch from Amazon and it's great so far.

Winsomelosesome · 25/07/2019 10:56

How wasteful! He does know they can be cleaned right?Just stick it in a bin bag in the shed surely? I wouldn't spend £90 either. You can get decent sized paddling pools for £20-£30. I got mine in b&q 4 years ago and it's in perfectly good condition.

I've got our bestway one out for the second summer, it's great as only the top ring needs inflating. Why is he throwing them away? I don't leave mine out all summer - couple of weeks maximum before it needs emptying and cleaning, and then bring it out again when needed. Also Milton sterilising tablets help keep the gunk away for longer.

NoSquirrels · 25/07/2019 11:10

We’ve got the one just linked to - year 3 and going strong. You need a pretty level surface though is the only thing.
Just scrub it out and store it for next time. Tell your DH he’s killing the sea creatures with his disposable plastic!

CacenCrunch · 25/07/2019 11:10

Was about £40 but in sale last year

OhioOhioOhio · 25/07/2019 11:11

Sorry to gatecrash but how are you all cleaning your paddling pools? x

oldwhyno · 25/07/2019 11:12

generally paddling pools and pool toys are not recyclable I believe. Bestway rectangular pools are great and can last a long time if you look after them.

ShadyMeLady · 25/07/2019 11:16

Gatecrashing as well, I have the rectangle one from Aldi, it’s bloody brilliant. And huge. Only £25.

How do I keep it clean though? Can I put Milton sterilising tablets in it? I only have a hose that attaches to my sink and it took hours to fill! I also don’t want to keep wasting water.

Lamentations · 25/07/2019 11:20

I clean ours with soapy water and a cloth and then hose it out. I'm interested to hear about the Milton tablets but I'm not sure that would solve the dead bugs and grass issue.

swisscheeseplant · 25/07/2019 11:21

How do I keep it clean though?

You can get a paddling pool cleaning kit on Amazon - it has various chemicals and testing strips. There are also filter pumps you can buy for the larger pools,

www.amazon.co.uk/Intex-Swimming-Floating-Dispenser?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Get some chlorine tablets and a floating dispenser. Keep a sieve for grass and insects and have a pool cover.

TattiePants · 25/07/2019 11:28

I bought this one from Asda a couple of weeks ago and it's great.

ShadyMeLady · 25/07/2019 11:29

Thank you, I’ll have a look on Amazon. I’ve got prime so should be able to get something quite quickly.

Ive been using a sieve for the floaty bits Grin

Thank you

Titsywoo · 25/07/2019 11:33

I got the Intex one from Amazon for £25 (the 8ft one) and it's great. We have it on the patio as it needs to be level (and make sure you smooth the bottom and the seams are at the sides before you fill). It takes 4 hours to fill up but it's deep enough to properly submerge (a good 60cm depth)

Titsywoo · 25/07/2019 11:34

I use a fine mesh colander to clear out the insects each morning!

daffodilbrain · 25/07/2019 11:36

Thanks my local Argos has the Bestway one in stock so off to collect!

I use Milton sterilising tablets in it, but it can only stay up a week or two at the most before it needs cleaning. I empty it, leave it upside down for a few hours to drain, then turn it back over and rub the inside of it with a towel (or 2 usually) to get the gunk off, and also dry it so it doesn't go mouldy in storage. Then it can be put away, and towels go on a hot wash. Bit of a faff but seems to work well
