I am not beautiful. I am plain. It has been mentioned I look stern, severe and serious. And I have an interview I need to look proper smiley and enthusiastic for.
How the chuff do I look all bright and cheerful when I’ll be thinking and anxious? Without looking insane.

Imagine the interviewers are naked Wink

Scripto · 24/07/2019 18:14

I think that would make me put my horrified and nauseous face on Grin

Think of some jokes you know that always make you laugh. Interview panel members are often very nervous themselves. Make light of it as in "this is me happy. Pray you never see me angry"?

TitianaTitsling · 24/07/2019 18:17

Watch some kids TV for the presenters?!

EvaHarknessRose · 24/07/2019 18:47

Make proper eye contact and a twinkly smile as you greet each person warmly. Feel free to look more serious and thoughtful at times, but relax and laugh a little too to show a range of expression. Say it was really nice to meet you as though you will be back soon.

Although honestly, scrap all of the above becuase nothing that is not natural will work. So think about what you think makes YOU come across best and makes you feel confident and smiley.

Channel your inner CBeebies presenter.

Scripto · 24/07/2019 20:00

Twinkly. Yup. Smile. Yup. Eye contact. Urgh.
I am fabulous and they need me SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Just have a constant slight smile. Practise from now and keep checking in the mirror (or selfie cam)

Atlasta · 24/07/2019 20:03

Pretend you have a movie crew following you and you are playing a part.

cyclingwith3 · 24/07/2019 20:06

Focus on your words, your face isn’t changing 😁

Seriously, compliment and praise easily. Do so deliberately and consciously. Eg thank you for inviting me, I’m so pleased to be here. Isn’t this a great space- whatever. It’ll become the focus more

(I have the same face )

Herocomplex · 24/07/2019 20:32

Someone once advised me to note the eye colour of each interviewer, sounds mad but it means you really look them properly. Done with a handshake it’s very engaging.
The other truck to relax your face is to hold your teeth slightly apart (keep your mouth closed or you’ll look simple), a clenched jaw makes the rest of your face tenser.
It’s very hard though, you are essentially who you are, and I’d rather a serious interviewee than one who I didn’t feel was being genuine.

CupoTeap · 24/07/2019 20:50

What's the job? I went for a receptionist role once and totally acted my way into it Grin

NoLeopard · 24/07/2019 21:14

Omg! That tip re opening your teeth but not your mouth is amazing! Just looked in the mirror and my face looks so different! 👍

Herocomplex · 24/07/2019 21:39

Really NoLeopard it’s meant to be subtle, how clenched WAS your jaw?!?

Scripto · 24/07/2019 21:49

Lord. Relax jaw. No dribbling. Eye colour. Acting. Must not look stern.
So got this.

NoLeopard · 24/07/2019 21:58

Lol, obviously more than I realised Herocomplex Grin

SisyphusDad · 24/07/2019 22:06

Listen to something really funny on your phone on the way to the interview. BBC iPlayer may well have something suitable.

eurochick · 24/07/2019 22:21

Practice saying hi and shaking hands at the beginning of the interview, all whilst wearing a warm smile. Do the same with a few of your stock answers and some closing remarks.
