Have just come back from my local supermarket (I only went because it's the only place in the entire town that's got aircon) and the person behind me in the queue had these items in their basket.

8 meringue nests
Cream
Black pudding

Yum Confused

You don't get out much do you?!

BarbaraofSeville · 24/07/2019 19:04

You do know it's not compulsory to eat all the things you buy together?

Or only buy a carefully curated selection of groceries that makes up a week's worth of planned meals?

I usually buy a combination of what we need in the next 2/3 days, what's on offer and what we need to keep the storecupboards topped up.

Last night I bought a load of noodle meals that DP likes, 8 packs of quorn things, some onions and a load of rice pudding, plus milk, wraps and ice cream.

Because I was in Asda, we needed milk and petrol and they're the cheapest for the quorn and the noodles. It might take months to go through the quorn, but it means I don't need to go out of my way to go in Asda any time soon.

Oh for gods sake, lighten up people!!

I would have found that funny too!

gobbynorthernbird · 24/07/2019 19:06

Have you never had a Bury pavlova?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/07/2019 19:07

Me too, @JudgeRindersMinder.

Maybe the heat is affecting people’s sense of humour.

ContactLight · 24/07/2019 19:08

Thanks Judge

The thing that got me was that they were the only three things in their basket Grin

in always fascinated when at the store and the person in front is buying 12 2l bottles of milk. Or ten loaves of cheap white bread. Normal shop then boom an excessive amount of one thing. Always wonder what they’re up to....

overnightangel · 24/07/2019 19:09

How was your milk, ice cream and petrol smoothie, @BarbaraofSeville? 😏

Skang · 24/07/2019 19:10

In about 1996 when I was working at Tesco, a woman came through my checkout with a cucumber and a tub of vaseline.

VictoriaBun · 24/07/2019 19:12

Just because today my shop was:
Cat food
Coleslaw
Tiger bread
Cereal
Doesn't mean I'll be eating it as one meal

Monst · 24/07/2019 19:12

I one brought a cucumber, a bottle of wine and chocolate - god knows what people thought of me. I was alone with my then one year old too Grin

ContactLight · 24/07/2019 19:13

You don't get out much do you?!
Not in this heat, no - I try to stay at home so I can avoid people with a sense of humour failure.

My shopping one day included 12 broomsticks, plant pots, white vinegar, bicarb, balloons, string, a range of fruit, sweets...

And bread, milk, meat, cheese etc.

I'm a Cub leader also doing shopping for the Scout and Beaver leaders at the same time as my own food shop. I often had large amounts of random things.

moonpiggle · 24/07/2019 19:14

@Skang 😂 class

karala · 24/07/2019 19:17

I love looking at peoples' shopping (and judging like fuck)

picklemepopcorn · 24/07/2019 19:22

Strawberries out the garden, and eggs from her own chicken to go with the black pudding. Simples!

Pannalash · 24/07/2019 19:24

Is the Tiger Bread for your cat VictoriaBun? Grin

Gingerkittykat · 24/07/2019 19:25

@Pipandmum

A family friend runs an ice cream van selling basic household items too. He goes to Asda to stock up on bread and milk because it is cheaper and easier than the cash and carry.

I've seen restaurant owners buy in the supermarket before too.

user1493413286 · 24/07/2019 19:26

I also love looking at other people’s shopping and making an image of what their life is like

fishonabicycle · 24/07/2019 19:28

I would be that weirdo as I do the shopping online, then go into M&S to buy the things I have missed!

Spam88 · 24/07/2019 19:40

Last few bits they need for a dinner party I reckon.

ContactLight · 24/07/2019 20:09

Yes, but... but.... massive drip feed alert...

It wasn't proper cream, it was Elmlea Shock

I love it when I have a "virtuous" shopping trolley. Usually on a Monday morning when there is no one to witness such virtue Grin

Yet when I nip in for the wine on offer, there is always a queue the size of the M25 who think I'm an alchie

  • I do always bulk buy wine on offer Grin
Soola · 24/07/2019 20:17

When I was single after I split with my ex I did a shop and my appetite wasn’t all that so I just put in things that would tempt me just to eat something!

Mainly chocolate items!

The girl at the till asked me if I was having a children’s birthday party! Grin

Spam88 · 24/07/2019 20:38

Was it a man? They don't understand that Elmlea isn't cream.
