Please help me find a scent-free laundry liquid

I've been using Ecover Zero for a while now, but they changed their ingredients a few months ago so now I can't use it.

I tried bicarbonate of soda a few times but it made all my clothes feel rough and scratchy.

I have just tried Surcare liquid for the first time and it has a horrible sickly-sweet smell, even though it claims to be free of perfume.

In the past I've tried soap nuts but they just don't get my clothes clean.

Can anyone recommend a laundry liquid that's GENUINELY scent-free, as opposed to one that just claims to be? Liquid please, as I don't like powder.

I actually did an extra rinse at the end of the wash, but it still stinks. Please help!

Weirdly Ocado sent me one to review for them last week. It was called "Bio-D Fragrance Free Laundry Liquid" and it is genuinely scent free.
Weirdly in the same shop they sent me Persil liquid as well....

Anyway, no scent at all and it cleaned really well.

Ah, thanks. There seem to be plenty of stockists so I'll give that a go.

I've just been to a shop that sells Bio D and it stinks of coconut!

Please help MN, I'm getting a bit desperate here!

I use dp Pure Liquid Soap, which I buy in Waitrose. It’s fragrance and preservative free. It only seems to come in 750 ml bottles, but that’s 12 washes.

I've just been to a shop that sells Bio D and it stinks of coconut!

How odd. The one in my kitchen smells of nothing at all.

Herocomplex · 24/07/2019 17:49

dp seems to stand for Dri-Pak

Fragrance free doesn't mean it has no smell- it will still smell of something- just not over perfumed

I've recently started using splosh for all my cleaning products - they're eco-friendly, but actually work (as opposed to ecover, which don't seem to clean as well as 'normal' products).

They have a great system to cut down on plastic - you buy (sturdier than normal) filled bottles the first time, and after that, they send pouches of concentrate, which you mix with water in the original bottle. So no throwing away loads of bottles every time. Smell great, work well.

TLDR - ecofriendly cleaning products, including a fragrance-free laundry detergent: www.splosh.com/bottles/laundry-detergent-non-bio-bottle-fragrance-free

There's plenty of demand, but manufacturers are ignoring us!

BioD is superb, I bought the powder because it comes in a cardboard box. I also bought a sample of the fragrance free liquid to take on holiday. It smells of nothing to me, but the main ingredient is derived from coconut oil.

tectonicplates · 24/07/2019 18:18

I like eating coconut but I can't stand using products that smell of it.

Out of interest, is there a reason that you have ruled out powder? Liquid detergent is murder on the washing machine innards over the long term.

Eco-egg!
Makes my clothes smell like nothing

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/07/2019 18:47

Eco-Egg

I have a fragrence free one , its fine on lightly soiled clothes , I mainly use it on black clothes as it doesn;t leave marks or fade clothes .

CakePigeon4 · 24/07/2019 18:54

After trying every brand we could find, we started using Skin Salve laundry powder and it has changed our lives! Completely cured DS’s eczema, and clothes are beautifully soft. It’s not cheap, but totally worth it, plus powder is loads better for your machine and for skin as it rinses clean, whereas liquid can build up and leave a residue - skinsalve.co.uk/collections/all/products/laundry-powder?variant=1062385357

Eco Egg made my eyes itch. I'll have to look into the DP liquid soap or the Skin Salve.

A while ago someone who worked as a scientist in laundry did an AMA. She explained that you can't get truly scent free as the chemicals in the cleaning products they use to make detergents have a really quite strong unpleasant smell. So they have to at least mask that. Unscented would just smell pretty bad.

tectonicplates · 24/07/2019 20:41

Well to be fair, I used Ecover Zero just fine for a few years until they changed their ingredients recently.

I don't think fairy non-bio smells of much. Whenever I take the laundry out of the machine all I can smell is cold water.
