Help me survive London tomorrow!

We've got tickets for Hamilton tonight so not going really isn't an option. I'm up north at the moment where its only about 21 degrees and I'm stood at the train station sweating, its forecast 38 in London tomorrow Sad

We're there all day tomorrow as our train home isn't until 8 pm, any suggestions of what to do to prevent from melting? We've got tickets for a couple of exhibitions but nothing else planned. Just me and a friend no DC.

(I know I'm being pathetic but I really don't do well in the heat Sad)

It is hot, but its not THAT bad.

Wear something long, light and loose fitting like a summer dress. You don#t want bare legs on sticky public transport in this heat (or I don't anyway).

If you have time to kill go an chill somewhere like the park in the shade, by water, or go somewhere with air con - restaurants, exhibitions etc

Minimize being on the underground, it is brutal atm. I woudl walk a fairly long distance slowly in preference to being on the tube.

Carry water with you - public transport is having issues all over the shop and there were lots of delays yesterday. Bring headphones or a kindle so you can be zen about it.

Maybe you and friend could bring swimming stuff and go to the serpentine for a swim, that would be fun

I went a few weeks ago and it was 34 degrees. It was very hot but bearable.
Tubes were hot, but not terrible by any means.

Spend time in air conditioned buildings. Wear floaty clothes. Stay in the shade. Drink lots.

Hamilton is utterly amazing. It'll be worth it! Enjoy!

Thatmustbemyname · 24/07/2019 10:31

And this sounds daft, but bring a cardi! Everywhere has air con to the max so it can be freezing inside some places.

Allow plenty of time for slowly getting to where you need to be, so you don't have to rush about.

Avoid the tube and consider a Thames Clipper river bus if you want to travel from the centre to the Tate or Tower Bridge

Have a lovely ice cream in the Parlour in Fortnum & Mason

I think the Somerset House fountains get turned on tomorrow

It will be fine, the tube is hot when crammed but bearable outside of rush hour. The museums are generally fairly cool and free! The same with department stores and shopping centres.

Dress in natural fabrics and carry water with you at all times, it will be fine. Just ensure you plan your day well and leave amble time to get to your train.

Herocomplex · 24/07/2019 10:42

Take it slow, carry water. Enjoy Hamilton!

Ursaminor · 24/07/2019 11:54

Go and see a film in the afternoon if you are melting. It'll be cool and your feet will get a rest, and you can have a sneaky nap before the evening!

Lost my post!
Don't go on the Bakerloo line!!!
londonist.com/london/transport/this-tube-map-shows-which-lines-are-air-conditioned might be helpful. I second going to watch a film.

Be aware that network rail are putting speed restrictions on some lines, so southeastern are running a restricted service. So allow plenty of extra travel time.

For lunch I'd head to a park or along the south bank and have a picnic.

It will be that hot for those saying it's not. We may break the all time UK record tomorrow to the east of London.

Crimebustersofthesea · 24/07/2019 11:59

Thanks all, v much looking forward to Hamilton Smile I know I'm being pathetic but I'm very much a rural northern girl and not used to temperatures above about 15 degrees! Must remember to step away from the wine too don't think that'll help!

Actually, it is a really sensible question, not at all pathetic.
