Just that really.

I'm a single mum going on a proper camping trip this week with my boys as soon as school breaks up.

Escaping a partner (currently LTB Grin) and looking forward to the road trip, packing up the car, the 5am start, campfires, planning the day trips, checking tyres, planning for the rain, generally getting by and enjoying it on our own!

Anyone else doing solo family travels?

I’m not, but wanted to stop and say hats off to you. You are amazing! Smile

marvellousnightforamooncup · 23/07/2019 19:15

I'm not single but I've just been away alone with my boys and loved every minute of it (except perhaps 10 hours on the motorway on the way). I hope you singles out there enjoy it too.

Pointlessness · 23/07/2019 19:17

I'm a single parent, going it alone. I haven't booked anything yet, though will be shortly.

We are badass 😎💪

Well thank you very much, back at you!

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 23/07/2019 19:21

Going it alone with 4 DC for nearly 10 years. Taken them abroad every year...and bloody proud of myself for doing it. As all of us singletons should be. We're amazing

Waxonwaxoff0 · 23/07/2019 19:22

Yes! Been solo travelling with DS for the past 3 years. We've been abroad 7 times, off caravanning to Norfolk next week. Grin

Snowy111 · 23/07/2019 19:24

Mine are older now but I still find it daunting, possibly because I’ve done it countless times- it ain’t easy but it can be really fab too. Everything is down to you, but you are also in charge and don’t need to compromise. Hope you enjoy your camping!

SimonJT · 23/07/2019 19:25

We’re going to Spain for a week, the longest he has ever been on holiday before is three nights, so lets see how much of a terror he is after seven!

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/07/2019 19:35

Been five years as a single mum and have taken DS away as many times as I can from America to Iceland!
I have married friends who can't believe o do it as they struggle as a family to go away! One only ever goes twenty miles down the road as she finds it too stressful to go further (kids are now mid/late teens)

theliverpoolone · 23/07/2019 19:36

DD and I are off to the Isle of Wight - I've got to manage getting the car on and off the ferry. Never done it before, so fingers crossed it's not too difficult!

BrightNewLife · 23/07/2019 19:41

Whoop! Yes!

Thanks @Shahlalala

I'm taking 2 of my 3 DCs, but will be taking all 3 later in August for more camping. It's my 3rd solo holiday and they've all been way more chilled - albeit less luxurious - than with DH.

My dream is to do something really adventurous with all of them, as DH hated the idea of anything not 5* Hmm

Woohoo-well done-it’s the best! I have been taking my dcs away on my own for 5 years and I love it way more than when we went with my ex. Enjoy every moment and the memories you create (unmumsnetty cheese, I know!)

TeachesOfPeaches · 23/07/2019 19:44

I'm taking my 3 year old to a tots weekend at Butlins for a couple of night as a mini trial before booking a big holiday. Mr Tumble and Teletubbies will be there - basically Glastonbury for pre-schoolers Grin

WillYouDoTheFandango · 23/07/2019 19:48

Single parent here too. I’ve taken my now 6 year old away the last 3 years to the canaries. We always have a great time. No pandering to anyone except ourselves. Super chilled. This year was the best yet.

Have a fabulous time OP. It’s much more pleasant than going with another adult with a face like a slapped arse half the time!

BrightNewLife · 23/07/2019 19:50

You'll manage @theliverpoolone! With car ferries you normally just follow the cars up the ramp, park carefully (usually you're guided to a spot?), engines off, keep hand break on during crossing etc, and drive back off.

When I left my first idiotic DH I packed up the car with the DCs and belongings and drove 2,000 kms through three countries to move!

Lucky I like a road trip Grin

I'm just back from the canaries with my boy and we had a really lovely relaxing time just pleasing ourselves. He's almost 11 now and at home I barely see him as he's always out with friends so it was nice to have some quality time with no distractions. Hope you have a lovely holiday OP.

zsazsajuju · 23/07/2019 19:57

Kudos to all the fab single mums! I take mine away a few times a year now (uk and overseas). It’s was crazily stressful the first year but it’s much easier now they are older and I’m more used to things. Have a lovely holiday ladies.

stucknoue · 23/07/2019 20:02

I'm going alone for the first time, but I've got it easy, dd is 18 and it's ai. Still seems weird to go without him, but she deserves a holiday

CleverQuacks · 23/07/2019 20:21

I took my three abroad on my for the first time in June. We had an amazing time and I felt so proud of myself lol

ncqtime · 23/07/2019 20:27

I was just coming on to say yes yes to that, especially to anyone going camping!

goodthinking99 · 23/07/2019 20:55

I was a single mum from when my DD was 2. The holidays I've had with her, and my single mum friend, and her DD, have been so fab that we've kept going away each year even though we've both had partners for the last 5 of those years.

Hooray to mixing it up for the holidays in whatever combination works! I've often thought going on holiday with adult family members you actually live with could be a bit boring...

Jellystars · 23/07/2019 21:02

Enjoy! I have a partner but I was single parent before I met him and I still do solo trips with my boy. Love them.

theliverpoolone · 23/07/2019 21:43

Thanks @BrightNewLife - that sounds fairly straightforward!

changedtempforprivacy · 23/07/2019 22:13

I've been a single parent from day one. I've been lucky to holiday with my family when she was a baby, but since she was a toddler I've really enjoyed our holidays just the two of us. Her favourite is Butlins just for tots, I enjoy caravan holidays, hoping to introduce her to camping next year, as once she starts school it will.be the only way we can afford a holiday! It is expensive travelling as a single adult - that's the main drawback I find..

Livingthedream12345 · 23/07/2019 22:13

Have a fab time camping OP.
I'm a single mum and am off camping with my DD and two dogs next week! Can't wait for the adventures and the thought of no hoovering for a whole week!
