Where do you take your kids out to eat?

We’ve finally decided the kids are ready to take out for a meal in the evening after years of only venturing out at lunchtime.

But where?

We struggle a bit anyway due to dietry restrictions - no dairy or tomatoes ( which makes Italian difficult) and DD is very reluctant to try anything spicy.

We are not keen on harvester type eateries either. ( yes I know). For lunches we find we can do British, Japanese, Turkish, fast food and most cafes. But lots of these are either really pricey come the evening dinner or shut at 5pm

Where do you go to eat out with young children in the evening?

I’d find somewhere that do kids eat free deals. Not sure if pizza express do then

QforCucumber · 23/07/2019 19:00

Anywhere we would eat without him really

2cats2many · 23/07/2019 19:02

We tend to go Japanese or Gormet Burger Kitchen or pizza (no good for you) or tapas. Or a nice gastro pub.

I’m sure most of the chain restaurants would have something to suit. Eg TGI Friday, Chiquito (does non-spicy stuff), Frankie and Benny’s, etc.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 23/07/2019 19:03

Turkish, Italian and Thai mostly. My kids love noodles so I ask them to do a simple chicken and broccoli noodle dish for them.
Mine also love Wagamama’s.

RobertSmithdoesmyhair · 23/07/2019 19:06

Nandos. Chicken with lemon and herb marinade with chips or rice. Yum!

Sagradafamiliar · 23/07/2019 19:07

Wagamama

Camomila · 23/07/2019 19:10

Wagamamas?
Those all you can eat pan-Asian buffets? I don't really like them but kids tend to love them.
We're by the sea so there's plenty of fish and chip places around too.

Though I tend to find that DS tends to behave better if we're somewhere a bit 'fancy' rather than if we are somewhere with lots of other DC.

Benes · 23/07/2019 19:10

The same places we go on our own. We have quite a few local pubs that we go to. Most places have kids menus

LBOCS2 · 23/07/2019 19:11

Anywhere we fancy really, except for very expensive places - mainly because I'm not spending that sort of money to have them fill up on bread then push their food around complaining it looks funny.

We go to local Turkish restaurants, tapas, Italian, Greek, sushi (they love Yo! for the novelty), places like that. Not chains so much.

MyOtherProfile · 23/07/2019 19:13

When ours were small we used to go to Indian restaurants lots with them.they would have korma and rice and nan between them. Or I would get a thali between me and the kids. As they got a bit bigger we took them anywhere we wanted to go.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 23/07/2019 19:14

I took mine to one of those all you can eat buffets with their cousins and they said it was the best day of their lives. Grin

WhatTheAbsoluteFuck · 23/07/2019 19:15

Wagamamas and Nando’s here

Blankiefan · 23/07/2019 19:21

Another vote for Nandos.

Handbaghag · 23/07/2019 19:27

When our kids were little the best advice we were given by another wise mum was to get a Tesco credit card. This earns points when you shop anywhere and more when at Tesco. Over their 18 years we have bought the majority of our family days out, meals out and overnight hotel stays with Tesco clubcard vouchers. This is usually Italian based for some reason as they do Prezzo, Ask Italian, Pizza Express, etc but it is a strategy that has served us well.

Sparkletastic · 23/07/2019 19:33

Wagamama, Nando's or Pizza Express
They also like tapas and Cote

yogima · 23/07/2019 19:35

Another vote for Wagamamas. I can get a veggie bowl of (rice) noodles and my son has cod bites and 'brain rice' - plain rice that's been put on the plate from a cup so looks like a brainGrin and fish bites.

It's a step up from a cafe but fun/not too serious and they seem good with not only kids but allergies.
Pizza Express are also good for kids and allergens I find.
Have fun. X

Andonandonan · 23/07/2019 20:13

Anywhere we want to go.

Whathappenedtothelego · 23/07/2019 20:36

We quite like a country pub with the DC, always found that a good option when they were small too. Or an independent Italian restaurant.

If DC were going to choose, the chain restaurants that they would consider amongst their absolute favourites would be Carluccios, Cote, Comptoir Libanaise, Wagamama, Harry Ramsden's, or Pizza Express.

BitchQueen90 · 23/07/2019 20:38

We go to a lot of the chain ones. Nandos, Zizzi, Frankie & Benny's. Firm favourites with 6yo DS.

TeamUnicorn · 23/07/2019 20:49

Pizza Hut
