...persuade ds not to shave his head. Arguments, please. Attached, with his permission, a picture of how he looks now.

“Is it a reaction against looking too goody goody?”

I think it might be. In that picture he was acting a “baddy” for the first time ever and he enjoyed it very much........

He's going to look gruesome. But you obviously realise that already.

Redred2429 · 22/07/2019 20:13

He might have a reaction to the shaver and have a spotty bald head? 😁

AmericanLemonade · 22/07/2019 20:15

DP decided to shave his head a couple of weeks ago, he’s still mourning the loss of his hair and it was nowhere near as nice as your DS hair

Bluetrews25 · 22/07/2019 20:17

Perhaps if he just goes a lot shorter, so no curls but still has scalp coverage? As a half way stage?
Personally, I prefer straight hair on blokes - but I am old gimmer.

BertrandRussell · 22/07/2019 20:18

He has been a pretty boy all his life-I suppose it’ll do him good not to be for a while....

Let him if he wants unless his employer has any particular dress code (no idea if generally employers have policies on length of hair?)

MarthasGinYard · 22/07/2019 20:32

I think go for it

Too thick for this heat Smile

Haffdonga · 22/07/2019 20:33

My ds has just shaved off his hair too Sad. Apparently it's a thing they do. He loves how the girls all want to stroke his head. Hmm

I am clearly very old fashioned and can only associate shaved heads with nasty things like the far right.

shiningstar2 · 22/07/2019 20:54

ARHH!! Don't do it!!! He won't look nearly as cool as he does now. It will take ages to grow back in and in will have loads of weird in between stages which he will have to go through to grow it back. Lol, All true. Hope he sees the light Grin

31RueCambon · 22/07/2019 20:57

In 6 weeks it will be 'normal' again.

Cute boy. Looks like my dd's type. She loves boys on debating teams.

You have to let him do it ONLY so that he doesnt remember you talking him out of it!

Yes- I have this problem too. Sad

Right. He’s gone off to work. I will find out the worst at about 3.

It’s my birthday. Boris Johnstone is going to be prime minister. And my baby boy is going to shave his head. What a day! Grin

Haffdonga · 23/07/2019 18:52

Did he do it Bert?

doubleshotespresso · 23/07/2019 18:56

Oh noooooo

I'd bribe the barbers to refuse to do it!

He's got gorgeous hair and I agree with far right/thuggish connotations despite the fact he's clearly a cherub!

Just no

Cairies · 23/07/2019 18:56

It'll grow back pretty quick tbh. We've all messed around with our hair at stages of our life.

StCharlotte · 23/07/2019 19:03

Does he want people to think he's going bald??

(I shared a house with a gorgeous lad with hair like that. I fancied the arse off him. He shaved it off and I went completely off him.)

Dollywilde · 23/07/2019 19:06

Not kidding, saw the pic before reading and thought it was James Acaster! Happy birthday, Bert.

No sons here but DP gets his hair cut half an inch too short every time he gets a haircut (“I want my money’s worth”) and looks all too-new-hair for the following two weeks, it breaks my heart. He did it for our wedding and everything, the bastard.... (I looked pretty shit on our wedding day too though so in the end it didn’t matter too much Grin )

Stillstrawberrywater · 23/07/2019 19:07

Let him do what he wishes.

foreverhanging · 23/07/2019 19:09

Ooooo hopefully he doesn't do it!

BertrandRussell · 23/07/2019 19:26

Yep- he did it! Well, not shaved but very very short. It’s not quite as bad as I thought , but I only saw him for 10 minutes as he was shooting off to the beach. I’ll see if I can get a picture for you later! As his dad pointed out- at least it’s not a tattoo.....

I think close clipped hair can look great ( mostly ) but in the sun - yes have to put sun cream on. Hair will always grow back I would say let him do it and decide. But in this sun - protect the scalp Grin In a very few months he will still have a James Acaster hairstyle if he chooses to

yogima · 23/07/2019 19:57

It's such a hard thing to do isnt it?
I caveat this with the fact I am married to a tattooed ,bald now (but shaved headed when i first met him) gentle man.
I had a cliched long haired hippy home educated son for many years.
Last year when i was doing his annual haircut he just kept saying nah, shorter shorter.

He ended up with an almost shaved head. He was 15!

Oh my goodness, his face was a thing of beauty. I could see his beautiful face and i loved it.
He has grown it again and against all i thought i would ever say, i kind of suggest him shaving it off again.
The thing is (i suppose Wink )it is his hair and he has the right for it to be the way he feels more comfortable ( but i still would happily shave his head today)

BertrandRussell · 23/07/2019 20:02

Mauritius- this was not a massively serious thread. And his image is in quite a lot of places on social media.I don’t think a nice picture that he actually uses as a publicity shot is going to do him any harm posted on Mumsnet!
