Why can I not hack the heat anymore?

I used to LOVE hot weather and was rarely affected by it. I spent a year in Australia and worked outdoors/in non-air-conditioned farm buildings in high 30s/40s and was fine.

It's about mid 20s here and I'm sweating, hot and irritable. And have been for a few weeks. We're booked to go to Corfu at the end of August - I'm going to actually melt, I think.

It's my age isn't it? (Early 40s). Hmm

I'm finding it worse with age but it is also very close and humid which doesn't help. It's not pleasant here at all (SW)

Me too. Have come inside, having found just sitting in the sun in the garden exhausting, It's unbelievable that I've trekked through countries in Asia in probably twice the heat - sad to think I may never be able to cope with going there again!

I can’t cope with it either, I’m melting here.

HairyFloppins · 22/07/2019 17:29

I think it's the humidity. It's unbearable here.

We went to Vegas last August and it was easily 40c plus and I coped fine.

Thankfully it is meant to break later this week in most areas, I just checked. Going to be hot and stormy first, though. I am not planning any other trips this week after today, town was horrible. Just going to take DC, picnic and sit in the shady area of the park.

There’s a difference in the heat in countries that are naturally hot - uk isn’t meant to be the bloody Mediterranean! I dare say in Australia you had chance to acclimatise a bit more to the heat if you were there a while.

It does get harder to handle as you get older but I put a lot of that down to having to function normally in it.

Me too, op. Just can't stick it like i used to.

Thecrown3 · 22/07/2019 17:58

I’ve been working roadside in London today and I just find that due to vehicle use it’s a very dry heat here in the uk.
When I’m on holiday it always feels there’s more moisture in the air or a breeze :-(

Also in SW and it's really muggy. Have bought some inflatable sprinkler thing for the kids - I'll be elbowing them out of the way.

I'm the same - now mid-forties and peri-menopausal. Anything over 22-23 degrees and I start sweating and generally feeling lethargic and utterly debilitated.

I should go and live in Finland.
