I am shortsighted, about -4.50 in both eyes. I'm mid-thirties and have used a mix of specs and lenses since I was 12.

I have finally had an eye test where my prescription hasn't really changed, and I've always toyed with the idea of LS.

If you have had it, would you mind sharing your experiences, including cost and company if you're okay with that? I feel like I need an anecdotal starting point!

Thanks in advance.

I had mine done 2 years ago and cost £3000 at optical express.
Best thing I ever done just wish I'd done it sooner.
Was -2.5 in both eyes and the procedure was quick ...first couple hours after having it done my eyes were streaming but after a sleep woke up fine and could see straightaway

Don't bother. My optometrist had it & he still has to wear glasses for up close. He said it meant he'll never be as bad as he once was but that your eyes are in a state of flux your whole life. He recommended to me that I use 'Ortho k' night lenses. (contacts that correct your eyes while you sleep). In the morning you take them out & your eyes are perfect all day long right down to bedtime. & best of all, no damage to the eye. I've had mine 10yrs now & they're so easy.

Also, mate of mine had one eye done & was in such agony during the procedure they never went through with the 2nd.

Brownwool they sound like magic! I had a terrible time with the lenses you leave in all day and night about 15 years ago and I have struggled with dry eyes ever since. I'm wary of the overnight thing, but how on earth do they work?

I had Lasik done 4 years ago and it was absolutely worth it. Not in the UK but I had it done by a very experienced consultant (who does all the professional sports people where I live!) in a major hospital - cost was 5,000 euro.

He was upfront that I will need reading glasses in 10 years - but I would have needed them anyway which would have meant bifocals. I have no problem with that and to date I have had four years of no messing with contact lenses for going out swimming or wearing sunglasses. Well worth every penny.

I had considered it for years but what made me go for it was my mother - she wore glasses from the age of 8 to age 69, when she had a lens replacement as part of eye surgery. She told me that if she was my age she wouldn’t have hesitated, so I went for it.

The first 24 hours are quite gritty and sore but after that it’s fantastic. Incidentally DH had it done a year after I did and he found it much more painful.
