My car got written off today and I need another one ASAP. I'll have approx £5k and can't pay more. Does anyone have one of these? I need reliable and cheap to run... any other suggestions??

I love my Clio, it's stylish, economical and has never let me down. When I buy a newer car it will be another Clio.

An unfortunate reason to have to make a choice, but have you considered not having a car at all? Using public transport, taxis or minicabs, and more walking?

I couldn't imagine anything worse. In fact the reason I learned to drive a car was because it was pouring with horizontal rain, I got soaked at the bus shelter and then a man who hadn't washed since 1986 sat next to me and I was dry heaving. That was the night I knew I needed to learn t drive. Grin

Dh misses his Skoda Fabia badly but we needed a bigger family car. It was 15 years old, reliable, cheap and although a 1.2 easily had a lot more umph that my Ix20 1.4. My car is reliable, but boring. It does the job, it will never set my world on fire but it starts every time, easy to drive, large boot, good for tall people.

So either the Hyundai i20 or the Skoda fabia. Both fab cars.

A car is essential for me, there is no public transport to anywhere near my work, I work odd times and it's way too far to walk. So a car it will be. Hoping to test an i20 tomorrow Grin

I've had a Clio and a Fabia (estate). Despite my vow never to have another French car, I bought a cheap Clio for a runabout and it was actually a sound little car with a surprisingly big boot. Bit underpowered for the hill I live on though.
My current car is a Skoda.
French cars are fine until they break down in my experience!!

Clio looks cute but feels plastic to me
