Does protein in urine always mean something serious ?

Nurse has asked me to get kidney bloods done , as I’ve had several urine samples coming back with high protein . Also have reoccurring UTIs though so they aren’t sure if it’s just that. Not had a blood test in about 18 months or so as far as I remember .

She’s said my blood pressure is normal , which is good , but I am very overweight (22 stone, 5ft 10) and have PCOS too . I don’t know if that makes it more likely I have kidney issues .

I’m only 28, finding myself quite worried tonight over it all . Have a GP review on Tuesday and bloods on the same day but I am concerned .

The bloods taken will likely be U+E and creatinine possibly egfr. All to do with looking at kidney function. If you have had protein in your urine it is possible they aren’t functioning as well as they could be

Also any chance you could be diabetic?

Not sure , I haven’t got any symptoms (according to NHS anyway) , haven’t had thrush in years , don’t pee an awful lot, never very thirsty really ... but I haven’t been tested for a while . I had a GTT a long time ago - about six years ago - but not had anything since , although gynae did say it might be an idea to check given the PCOS .

I don’t feel really unwell though , which I’d have expected if I had diabetes , but maybe it’s one of those things creeps up on you .
